Interesting...I'm hearing some rather populist talk from my right-wing, fundamentalist mother.

Interesting...I'm hearing some rather populist talk from my right-wing, fundamentalist mother.
She's mad about the company bailouts. She's also mad about personal bailouts, but let's not go there. I want to talk about agreement between Republicans and Democrats.

Apparently, she doesn't agree with the talking heads who support the Wall Street bailouts. Usually she doesn't have an original thought, so I wonder where this is coming from. Is anyone in the right-wing sphere sounding like a populist? I stopped watching all right-wing crap. It's bad for my health.

Anyway, she expressed concern that a revolution may be imminent. I expressed my opinion that (at least for now) Americans are too lazy to stage a revolution.

So, those of you with Republican friends and family: Have you noticed any populist rumblings?

1. The GOP has run on faux populism for years.
And to large extent (obviously) it has worked up until now. Democrats and progressives have shown a remarkable level of cluelessness to the appeal of populism, which in some ways explains why the 'elitist' label sticks to us. I mean, for gods sake, you had DUers sounding like George Will this past week, the way they were clutching their pearls over the bailout bonus tax.

So yeah, the righties are talking a good game about populism with the bailout. It's no sweat for them to oppose the bailout anyway. They're the minority party.

3. Jeff Greenfield (guest on CRose) made a significant contribution at
the very end of the program the other night. He believes
there is a good chance of a real populist struggle developing
between Dems(Government can be used for good) and Repubs(Small
government or as little government as possible.)

Interesting comments by your Mother.

The main thing I have noticed, I do not seem to be such a pinko
commie any more.
