Rachel Maddow
Just a quick question about dear Rachel--why does she always wear those (in my opinion) disgusting glasses whenever she appears on talk shows--other than her own?
Does anyone know?

She is quite beautiful without them and it seems to me that she wants to hide that and appear more butch--but please talk me down --if I'm wrong!

1. Could be her way of thumbing her nose
at the beauty queen image of female journalists. She's fun but incredibly serious and the glasses kind of fit that image.

I agree.

she would NEVER be confused with a beauty queen... Gotta love her, but man - she really looks better on the radio!

3. I think that's her "normal" look.
She has to dress and wear makeup for her show. As a guest, she looks like herself. I think she looks cool.

5. When she appeared on The View -
She said she had no idea what the make up person was doing - wearing glasses is probably her natural self - I wear corrective lenses and if I had to spend a ton of time behind bright, hot lights, I may prefer my glasses over my contact lenses.

6. I think she is actually a shy little person. She protects herself with those glasses.
She does have a very beautiful face. I don't think she gives a rats ass about appearance when she's not on her own show.

8. I've wondered about the glasses as well
It does appear that it's the image she want's to portray as she can obviously afford any glasses that she wants.

10. She's got lousy vision,
and she wears contacts for her show, but she hates them.

So, the glasses are necessary. I don't think Rachel's all that caught up in how she looks, which endears her even more to me.........

11. Because she wants to?
She wears her work uniform for work and her real clothes on her own time, just like virtually everyone else in this world.

14. It's a style. A geek style or what some call the "ugly look". That is my style. Hey!

15. Sorry, but making a fuss about a woman's glasses is sexist and ugly.
Her glasses suit her face. She is not a fragile, tiny woman, hence fragile, tiny glasses would look out of proportion on her.

One of the things that I like so much about Rachel Maddow is that she was not hired just for her pretty face, cute manner and ability to read a teleprompter. She actually understands news events. Another thing I like is that she looks wonderful, but not cute. Her appearance and her demeanor earn the viewers' respect.

And yet another thing I like about her is her willingness to wear glasses on TV every once in a while.

Having grown up in the 1950s, I have horrible memories of being called "four eyes." The refrain "Boys don't make passes at girls who wear glasses is indelibly etched in my brain." And, by the way, it isn't true. I can vouch for that. Rachel is fine with or without her glasses. It's not about her looks.

20. Obviously--I adore her...she is the best and
She was one of the first great people when AA first started and so far...she has not sold out to the MSM, something I was very much afraid of.

If you think my comments sexist, you must be very young and totally inexperienced!

Having been a strong woman all my long life...I totally understand everything that comes with it,(mainly derision, hardship and loneliness--especially if you're attractive too) ....and nobody, especially not me.... wanted to pick on her.

I was just curious---OK?

No offense to Rachel intended in any way.

I wear glasses too--big ones ...little ones...whatever works best for my vision...it's just that when I look at her with those big ,square rimmed ones--she kind of reminds me of another great and smart Dem, Al Franken!

You'll probably all scream at me now--but may be I need new glasses myself.
