Meanwhile, back in Omaha...........
.......another car dealership bites the dust

<<The general manager of Metro Mitsubishi announced Friday that his dealership near Westroads Mall was going out of business.

"We're closing down a dealership," Tony Anderson said. "Today is our last day in business here."

He said after the economic downturn, his sales went down by as much as 90 percent.>>

This on the heels of a fairly new GM dealership closing about 2 months ago:

<<Thirty-one years after opening its doors, Reagan Buick-Pontiac-GMC has shut its doors.

Owner Ken Reagan said he has no choice and is a casualty of the downward spiraling economy.

Reagan’s father started the business in 1977. The dealership shut down on Jan. 10.

“It’s been one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do in my life,” Reagan said.>>

<<An Omaha organization that reaches out to grieving children is facing its own crisis right now.

Leaders of the nonprofit group Ted E. Bear Hollow have serious concerns about the future of the organization.

“It appears to me that we can pay our bills for another two months if nothing comes in. That’s not a very big cushion,” said Ted E. Bear Hollow executive director Nancy Hemesath.

Since 1991, the support organization has helped more than 4,000 children and their families work through the death of a loved one. It never charges families for its services and relies solely on donations and grants to pay expenses.>>

1. Reagan closing was a bit of a surprise.
They just recently moved to that location and spent some serious cash doing so.

2. I was stunned when they announced that
If you look at the other dealerships in that complex, you have to wonder. Volvo, Infiniti, CarMax, and a Chrysler/Jeep dealer IIRC. All of those, I'd wager, are struggling.

3. Except for CarMax, all of those transferred from elsewhere in Omaha.

Similar to the Reagan situation, the others moved from well-established locations in Omaha. I wouldn't be surprised if they're also having difficulties, particularly after the big investment required to move to their current locations.
