Watched the movie, "Swing Vote" on DVD--good one for now.

If others didn't see it before the election when it came out, I encourage you to do so. Yes, it is funny, poignant, pointed, but I think it has a message that many of us need right now. Having won the most difficult of elections, I see the signs of division moving some away from the fight, while there may be a tendency for others to savor the victory with a long bout of apathy. In Kevin Costner's red neck stereotypical character, this film very effectively shines the light on that phenomenon. It might be just the kick in the pants we need to re-engage for those who are stepping away, but in a very humorous way. It has a great cast with lots of familiar cameos.

Yes, I know lots of folks don't like Kevin Costner (and no, he has not been a REPUG since 1986 per his own interviews), but I think you'll like this one. Any one else see it?

Below, I link to an old post from Democrats_win, who gives a nice synopsis. I was curious if the film was ever discussed on DU and this was the only very brief thread I could find:

1. It started out with a great premise, but after 45 minutes it fizzled
and went nowhere.

4. Oh, you are harsh... I thought the speech was well done...
Costner was very believable, IMO and that anecdote used to bring reality home belongs to millions of families right now. if you can leave the cynicism aside. He may not be everyone's favorite actor, but he can deliver. Maybe you should skip to the last few scenes and give it another try?

13. I'm not being harsh, and I'm not being cynical. It was a good premise
that didn't deliver all the way to the end.

Costner was fine--he usually can't act his way out of a wet paper bag, but he did fine here.

I loved the Stanley Tucci and Nathan Lane characters. Slimy little handlers like them are a big part of what is wrong with politics today.

Overall, somewhat entertaining. Not bad as a $1 RedBox rental.

3. I liked it also.

The actress who played Costner's daughter was great!

And I liked the music- yes, I like the Marshall Tucker Band.

9. Ahh...Promo for Trailer....Hey Good On You Pumping your thread and creating a "BUZZ."
I might take issue with the way you did it, though. If' you'd been more upfront in the beginning you might have gotten better response and on Greatest.

Just saying...

10. Huh?
This is a movie that came out nearly a year ago... I am hardly wanting to create a "buzz." 'Just wanted to see if anyone else had discovered the film at this late date and thought it relevant to today as well.

I ask again: what original link were you seeking? I linked to the only discussion my DU search came up with in terms of a prior discussion on DU.

11. For those who might have missed the movie...who might have wanted to know more
you didn't give a link to how to see it on DVD online or a review of it...and the link to an older DU post about it failed to give a link, also to anything about it.

That's what I'm saying. Thanks for bringing it to the attention of folks...but unless you give a link to something about it that folks can do quickly to see if they are interested ...you aren't going to get NEW FOLKS who might have missed it interested in it.

Who has time to Google when you come here for links that save you time?

That's what I'm saying...

If I knew how to watch it online, then I WOULD HAVE DONE SO. I rented a movie that came out some time ago. Casual discourse. Nothing more. Sheesh.

Thanks for hijacking the thread....
