Gov. Pawlenty should be calling back all the MN National Guard to help with the Flooding. There is going to be more flooding and they AND their Equipment should be here in MN to help.
http://www.minnesotanationalguard.org/press_room/fact_sheets/military_equipment.php Equipment of MN National Guard
http://www.minnesotanationalguard.org/units/unit_template.php?unit=PUNRR How much of the State's Tax Payer dollar's being spent on private contractors for their equipment and vehicles being used in the flooding that the MN National Guard could be using? It must be huge amount.
http://www.theredbulls.org/tiki-index.php It is not too late, they need to be called back.
I know that there are already MN NG helping in Moorhead but none of our National Guard should be out of the country. They are calling for more volunteers but they should be calling our MN Guard members that are still in the country to be called back to help this state. That is what they have signed up for and trained for, and what the Constitution says they are suppose to be here for.
On Feb 13th, 1000 MN NG members were sent to Iraq in Feb.. To train Iraqi police.. The MN NG haven't left the country yet, they are still in WA.
Gov Pawlenty could call them back, if he was truly for the people of this state. (not using the MN NG for his way to higher office)
Some of these Guard members have been sent to Iraq 4 times, many for 3 times. They should be here in MN for natural disasters and any unrest here. We, as taxpayers, should not paying private companies and contractors to do what the MN guard should be doing.
Maybe Pawlenty is getting campaign donations from the private companies.
In fact it is illegal for the NG to be overseas.. In Dec it was declare Iraq was no longer an imminent threat.
The Guard are the mainstay of America's national defense, and as with other American institutions, the Guard's duties are distributed between the states and the federal government. Unless called into national service, each unit and each individual member of the Guard remains in the service of their respective states.
Five years ago, George Bush called the Guard into national service pursuant to the 2002 Authorization to Use Military Force (AUMF) against Iraq. The AUMF, passed by Congress in its rush to war, established a limited mission: First, the removal of Saddam Hussein from power; second, enforcement of preceding United Nations Security Council resolutions regarding the elimination of alleged Iraqi WMDs and ballistic missiles.
Sadly I heard tonight that Military's "North Com" is going to graciously send two more rescue helicopters to Moorhead and Fargo.
** Maybe they should close "North Com" and send them to Iraq.. and bring back our National Guard and especially those MN Guard members waiting in Washington to be sent out.
