It looks like DUers aren't happy with Obama
Why so? It could be worse. Can you imagine something bad happening to McCain leaving bimbo running the country? Remember, if it took eight years to screw it up, then it'll take eight years to clean it up.

6. You just don't get it do you.
It's not about the SPEED (i.e. why hasn't Obama fixed everything yet). It's about the DIRECTION (i.e. why do the administrations plans seem to overwhelmingly reflect the interest of Wall Street and reinforce the status quo of thirty failed years of corporate capitalism? (vs. a more democratic and sustainable capitalist model))

7. What would you do
if you were Obama?

I can't even begin to understand this Wall Street/banking/global economy mess, so I'm curious as to what other kinds of directions Obama might or should take.

What would you do?

Me, I'd run screaming out of the White House and head for Argentina .........................

I'm sorry that you can't understand the current mess. I can. And I've written about alternative ways both here and on my blog. Right now I've just gotten up after graveyard shift and haven't even had my coffee yet, so you go look for that stuff and I'll try to get awake and write another version of what I've been saying as a response for you later.

22. Where were you in the primaries?
He's doing exactly what he said he would so. If you thought Obama was going to sweep in and destroy capitalism you were paying attention. I appreciate the fact that's what you think should be done, but there was not a single candidate, not even Kucinich, that would have done so.

59. No one is asking for him to "destroy capitalism"
I would however like him to turn us away from the unsustainable PLUNDER capitalism of the last thirty years and toward a sustainable market capitalism that includes responsible regulation, worker protections and oversight.

Where was I during the primaries. Right where I should have been - vociferously supporting Obama. But the primaries are over. John McCain was defeated. A good man (I believe) won. Now its time to get to work, and part of that work is not sitting down and shutting up but rather standing up and speaking out for the things that we believe are RIGHT.

11. As is their usual paradym the R'Pukes left the country in
a mess for a Democratic president to clean up. What is worse is that there are layers of filth on top of layers. It was their evil intent to make it so complex that no one could unravel it - but I believe our man can do it.

12. Qualify that - SOME DUers are not happy with SOME of his policies
.
.
.

Giving trillions of dollars to those responsible for the poor people's plight sorta ticks off a distinct crowd.

INCREASING troops in Afghanistan is not favored by the general population, neither is the continuation of the war in Iraq.

BUT

President Obama does not wield most of the power in the USA, and he knows it methinks.

If he moves too fast in the wrong(right) direction,

he may end up at the mercy of the gang that sent JFK and MLK to the beyond before their time.

USA is run by the Banksters . .

never forget that . .

14. One can support the President and not be happy about all his positions and actions
demanding everyone be happy about everything is not only irrational its harmful in the long rung. We live in a country of many different opinions, going out to attack people or groups that dont agree 100% with him stifles progress and diversity.

15. I am far from unhappy. But I will point out that he is doing pretty much
what he said he would do. He said he would send more troops into Afghanistan, take 18 months to extract from Iraq and spend more money on the military. He also never gave any impression that single payer was even considered. As for the economy, that whole thing exploded so fast and so late he never really defined his position.
Many have painted their desires on him and now they are disappointed. I knew what we were getting and knew full well that we would have some fights on our hands to get Obama and congress to move.
Considering McCain was the ONLY other choice a sane person would vote Obama and roll up their sleeves.

16. "It could be worse."
You are correct. It could be much worse.

It could also be better.

"Better," for me, would be getting, not the lesser of 2 evils, but an actual left-of-center, non-corporate/new dem president.

I didn't expect to be happy with Obama, since I wasn't happy with the policies he campaigned on.

It's not personal. If he could be moved just slightly left of center, I'd be content. He doesn't have to be off in left field with me, lol.

Other than the economy, which is a nightmare I don't expect to wake up from this year, if there is one thing he could do to send a little "happiness" my way, it would be to dump that POS Arne Duncan, appoint a liberal EDUCATOR to be secretary of education, and drop the tools of the privatizers, charter schools and merit pay. There are better, healthier ways to reform the system.

Or, if he wants to make my profession a continuing nightmare, he could drop the pandering to insurance companies and work aggressively for universal, single-payer, not-for-profit health care.

Either of those would make me happy. Both would make me delirious.

18. Netvocates are like ants
Between those still with their noses bent out of shape over Hillary not getting the nod, those who disliked him long before the primary was over because he isn't progressive enough to suit their tastes, and those who aren't even Democrats but slept in a Holiday Inn last night so they think they can drop by and be posers........ well

I'd say 99% of DU is still 120% behind Obama. That 1% makes a lot of noise and post a gazzion times a day about how concerned they are that DU is turning on Obama.

Hillary was a known entity, she and Bill had ties that were too close to corporations.

So far as Obama, his current dealings with the economy are nothing but Clinton v.2, and thats unacceptable.

26. I learned the hard way
Politicians are politicians. Bill Clinton taught me that.

I knew exactly who I was voting for when I voted for Obama. I knew that he was the most likely Democratic candidate to win and that if he fulfilled even 1/3 of what he promised, I would be happy.

I also realized that he had a unifying quality that I haven't seen in a long damned time. I've grown quite weary of political polarization. I'm sick to death of "Us vs. Them". I want stuff done.

So far, President Obama is getting stuff done.

Edited on Sun Mar-29-09 08:51 PM by bridgit
as just that; words of 'hope & change draped in poetry', always knew it would be a shit sammich, knew was not going to be easy to disengage our armed forces not in today's world, knew he'd be blamed for it, knew too many would drift away; knew that once Obama got in there he'd take a look around after sit downs with the truly grim & dire faces America has to offer and here we are at the very beginning of a process that really only has 4 years to start make any sense and we're no different in that regard; it's Democrats in general, and we're stepping too early into their frame of us as a will-nilly fly-where-the-wind-blows party I did think his 'online wit'da Prez' gig the other day just wasn't enough as he seemed to trade one (1) Obama Girl for three (3) Obama Valley Girls...

DUer's can be unhappy about all sorts of stuff, maybe it has nothing to do with Obama that's prolly the best way to look at it :kick:

48. Look closely and you'll see that it's a small but very vocal handful.
An interesting post from yesterday suggested that... "Bitterness from the primaries predisposes people to go for the false dichotomies posed by MSM"... Hmmm. I note that some of the most-used criticisms come almost word-for-word directly from the rants of the likes of Hannity. I notice that these critics often word their Subject Line so as to attract other critics and invite them to post their rants, as evidenced by the fact that the thread often morphs into a scary circle jerk of un- or mis-informed judges waving their pitchforks and screaming for revolution.

My deal breakers:

Get out of Iraq -- NOW
Get out of Afghanistan -- NOW
Universal, single-payer health care
Prosecution of the entire Bush cabal, a la Nuremberg
Rebuilding the American infrastructure with a solid plan
Complete reversal of all Bush signing statements
Completely voiding Patriot Act (I and II)
Dissolution of the Federal Reserve

That's just for starters.

We have seen nothing resembling that, but those are just MY deal breakers.
