GOP Sen Threatens "World War III" If Dems Try To Seat Al Franken
In Minnesota, it's still November
By MANU RAJU | 3/30/09 4:28 AM EDT

Texas Sen. John Cornyn is threatening “World War III” if Democrats try to seat Al Franken in the Senate before Norm Coleman can pursue his case through the federal courts.

Cornyn, the chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, acknowledges that a federal challenge to November’s elections could take “years” to resolve. But he’s adamant that Coleman deserves that chance — even if it means Minnesota is short a senator for the duration.

A three-judge panel is expected to rule any day now on legal challenges to the November election.

Coleman attorney Joe Friedberg has predicted that Franken will be on top after the court rules, arguing that an appeal to the Minnesota Supreme Court could swing the election back in Coleman’s favor.

But what if that doesn’t happen?

Nobody really knows.

2. If Franken is certified, he is seated. End of story.
Norm will probably be indicted before this is over anyway.

9. Franken has been certified
He's the winner according to the Minnesota Board of Elections. But Minnesota law doesn't allow for provisional seating of the winner if the loser is sore enough to pursue every legal challenge he can think of, good faith or bad. Heck, the loser can even bring up challenges to issues he had previously agreed or stipulated to, and the courts are powerless to stop even the most frivolous motions and backtracking.

8. To quote Croyn's favorite "moran" - Bring. It. On.
They love a good fight when the odds (or the courts) are stacked in their favor but let something actually be right and they will obscure, lie, cheat, filibuster and file endless lawsuits to keep anything but the truth and fair elections to happen.

Anybody remember the nuclear option that Dead Cat Frist and Chinless McConnell kept threatening the Dems with just a few short years ago? Well, I think the Dems should drag that out, dust it off and throw it back into the faces of the Party of No. And they need to seat Franken so he can help them.

7. Reid Has No Cajones...
If he hears some little voice in his head say that the election will be determined through appeals he will wait...AGAIN. You'd think for a crucial vote Reid would be fighting hard for it, but his spine turns to jello anytime a rushpublican yells fillibuster.

This court looks like they took their time to do this right...any appeal will be on the procedure, not the merit and is not germaine to the election. I can't see how an appeal is upheld and if its fast-tracked to the SCOTUS that they'll be real hesitant to step into this election. But we've seen logic and common sense go out the door before.

Reid should have sat Senator Franken when the election was certified...not waiting for a GOOP governor who gets his marching orders from John Cornyn. But Reid has no cajones.

12. "Reid should have sat Senator Franken when the election was certified"
The problem is that the State of Minnesota has not issued a certificate of election to Franken. Until they do, Senate Rules prohibit seating him. That is the reason that Burris' seating was delayed.

13. The Board Of Elections vs. Palwenty
The board of elections did find that Franken was the winner. It was Palwenty who refused to certify and it's obvious for partisan reasons. Franken could have been seated just like Mary Landrieu was while her election was contested in 1996. Reid didn't have the stones to do it. Too bad Robert Byrd is so old and frail...he's show him how it was done.

17. Did Landreau have a certificate of election?
Just because the election was contested does not mean that she lacked the certificate.

they surely can't get worse than they already are, which is stupid. They're getting to be the party of stupid, which simply means that the leadership holding them together has left the building.

Go ahead GOP. Start WW III!

judges. The MN supreme court could take a year before that happens.

"threatening World War III" if Democrats try to seat Franken....Typical right-wing type threats, when you don't get your way, the next step is violence...

Isn't that other deranged lunatic from Minnesota, Michelle Bachmann, urging a revolution....
