13. I'd take a Lucerne over a Camry or Accord any day.
I think those Lucerne's are pretty good looking cars, and they don't look like everything else on the road.

20. A friend had a 1985 Saab that was purchased new.
It had a few minor problems, but with close to 200,000 miles on it, it's still going strong. (It was sold to another friend a few years ago.)

Saab has become more expensive under GM's ownership, my friend bought it because it looked like an expensive car, but it wasn't.

9. I have a 98 Regal. It has 120K miles on it. It **still** runs perfectly
I would get in it and go cross country tomorrow. It gets 25 highway. It is very smooth and quiet, even at (illegally) high speed. It has never had one dime in repairs beyond the following:

New window actuators, front and rear, on the driver's side. About $500 in parts and my son's labor to repair.

Service has been by the manual, generally. The corporate 3.8 V6 in that car is bulletproof. Absolutely bulletproof. The only down side has been retained value.

3. I think that's from a JD Power reference. Buick and Jaguar were tied
for most dependable.

My Buick Grand National was one of the most dependable cars I ever owned, though that was almost 20 years ago.

4. Tied with Jaguar, of all the ironic possibilities
I don't doubt that modern Jaguars are reliable, but they have such a long, dark reputation it's amazing to see.

8. that long, dark reputation is in some degree related to the use of...
Lucas electronic equipment....Lucas has been deemed 'Prince of Darkness' by many owners/mechanics of UK prime automobiles, including Rolls....

They seriously need to work on a new image for that car.

The new crossover, Enclave, is a great looking car. The new midsize which is coming out this year will have a similar style.

11. Yes, they're very reliable - THE FIRST YEAR. Then they fall apart like Jenga.

JD Powers surveys new car owners.

If you're buying a used car, however, Consumer Reports will tell you another thing...

PS: I owned a Buick which didn't make it to 80,000 miles, so call me prejudiced. That was the 80's. Maybe Consumer Reports has good things to say bout 4 year old Buicks?

14. Yeah, that makes sense.
I can't imagine buying a second hand Buick. I can hardly imagine that even in the first year they are more reliable than, say a Honda.

15. I have found my Buicks, not just reliable, but more comfortable
on a long drive than other members of my family luxe Mercedes
and BMWs.

They drive great.

Let us be honest--Madison Avenue keep up with the Jones attitude
of Americans---convinced the young that in order to conform
and fit in, they must have certain brands.

We have the most conformist society in the world.

17. I drive a 2001 Buick, one 'major' repair in the past 4 years, gets 25 mpg.
My wife and I bought the car in Oct 2004, it had about 35k ish miles. Was a lease car for a couple of years then an older gentleman bought it and put just a few thousand miles on it. We got his number and talked to him for awhile. Paid about 9.5k cash and a broken down Dodge Neon for it.

My wife drove it for two years with the kids here and there and then in Jan 07 it became my daily driver as a I sold my mustang :(. Mustang was a 99 and I never had major repairs on it either. So its been my daily driver back and forth to work which is a 33 mile round trip with half interstate travel(often rush hour) and half downtown travel(stop lights), I've still managed to get 25 mpg out of it which I'm okay with. I don't really drive it anywhere else.

I've spent very little money on the car:

Wiring issue for a blinker light back in 05 I think - 150 bucks.
Brake pads front - Don't really remember had them done.. 150-200??
Replacing the upper intake manifold - approx 450.

I just had the upper intake manifold replaced. After listening to car have a terribly loud chirping sound for about a year I decided to spend some money on it. Turns out that Buicks and Pontiacs have a plastic intake manifold and it can get hot and warp which causes the PVC value to rattle. It can get worse though if it cracks coolant can get into th engine and hydro-lock it.

I'll probably buy some tires for it this fall but other then that I'm pleased with the Buick overall, pretty cheap to own so far *knock on wood*.
