Wednesday, while appearing on “The Sean Hannity Show,” Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) repeated her call for revolution against our elected leaders because of her disapproval with the real and not so real policies of the new administration. This idea was strongly supported by Mr. Hannity.
Bachmann is infamous for her continuously over the top statements. But this time, the Congresswoman, whose district is about an hour from where I grew up, took her rhetorical flare to some very dark and disturbing places.
"We are headed down the lane of economic Marxism," said Bachmann while appearing with Hannity. “It's like Thomas Jefferson said, a revolution every now and then is a good thing. We are at the point, Sean, of revolution. And by that, what I mean, an orderly revolution -- where the people of this country wake up get up and make a decision that this is not going to happen on their watch.”
I would like to remind Ms. Bachmann and Mr. Hannity that our country had an orderly revolution on November 4, it is called an election. Our county has these orderly revolutions all the time. This is how free nations decide who will represent them in federal, state and local elected office. On this most recent day of orderly revolution, almost 70 million Americans decided they wanted Barack Obama to be their President. Ironically, on this very same day, the people in Rep. Bachmann’s district chose to send her back to Washington to represent their interests. Clearly, Bachmann does not take issue with these particular results. Also, how can the actions of Mr. Obama be deemed Marxist if his agenda has to be legislated by the democratically elected members of Congress? The citizens of the United States chose to have a Democratic President and a Democratic Congress. Was it Marxism when the people chose to have Republican controlled government during the first six years of this decade?
One other piece of information Bachmann may consider while making her calls for revolution: her home state of Minnesota elected Mr. Obama by a margin of 10 percent. I find it simply amazing that Rep. Bachmann claims to be such a patriotic American, yet she appears to be so against the fundamentals of our American Democracy, except, of course, when the will of the people allows her to continue serving in the U.S. Congress.
