University hosts mass for Schiavo anniversary
University hosts mass for Schiavo anniversary

NAPLES, Fla. (AP) -- A Catholic university in southwest Florida plans a mass on Tuesday to recognize the fourth anniversary of Terri Schiavo's death.

A new $24 million oratory on the campus of Ave Maria University near Naples will be the site of the mass for Schiavo, the Tampa-area woman who was at the center of an end-of-life case that captivated the nation.

Schiavo's brother, Bobby Schindler, said he was seeking a higher profile for the annual mass when he approached Ave Maria University founder Thomas Monaghan, the Dominos Pizza magnate who built the 2-year-old college and surrounding community in farm fields east of Naples.

"It's a prestigious university," Schindler told the Naples Daily News. "Mr. Monaghan is a leader in the pro-life movement and has been very supportive of us."

8. I'll trust you any day over a Roman Catholic fundy
I doubt it would do any good, but somebody needs to point out the artificial interference was keeping Schiavo from following her brain into the grave. Surely the church is so focused on interfering with gawd's plan that artificial prolongation of a life that is long over should be repellent to them.

Or not, we know they fear their god and project that fear onto everybody else.

Don't forget that these are people who base large decisions on the idea of miracles.

6. Ave Maria has had major accreditation problems
from the time it was in MI. Monaghan just picked up and left Michigan for Florida for his private city/University complex. It also has problems with the local diocese down there on how to use the huge oversized church building.

Anything Ave Maria can be viewed as a Catholic Cult, not even mainstream Church governance (as screwed up that is at times). Monaghan only lets millionares+ into his little Catholic clique, the poor and needy really do not rate. It is a cult of personality around him to rise his stature and fill his pocketbook with the gullibles' money.

I Michigan he had no respect for his workers at Ave Maria College in a right to work atmosphere and even against Church teachings.

12. I hope Schiavo rests in peace.
What has the pro life movement to do with a poor brain dead woman. Actually she was not brain dead. Her brain had deteriorated to the point where there was not much left especially the thinking part. I will never understand why the doctors did not make this clear to the public.
