The Great American Disconnect.......
I was just talking to a neighbor in the hallway about auto bailouts, outsourcing and all things economy-related. She mentioned how horrible it is that bankers who produce nothing are being favored over auto companies which actually produce things here in the States, and how terrible it is that so few products in stores are produced in America, and she's fed up with corporate union-busting. .....

Then she told me she was on her way to Wal-Mart to buy some stuff she saw in the sale paper. :(

I was about to say, "Well, by shopping there you're supporting much of what you just complained about," but didn't. (And no, she doesn't need to shop at Wal-Mart for financial reasons).

Until we vote with our feet, so to speak, this exploitation will continue.

1. I hope it's just that she doesn't know about Mal-Wart.
I'd hate to think anyone would shop there unless they have to do so for financial reasons or don't know anything about the corporation.

2. Buy only American Made products at wal-mart and checkout with a human cashier.

YOU will have just helped several American workers keep their jobs.

The Wal-Mart You Don't Know
By: Charles FishmanWed Dec 19, 2007 at 12:44 AM
The giant retailer's low prices often come with a high cost. Wal-Mart's relentless pressure can crush the companies it does business with and force them to send jobs overseas. Are we shopping our way straight to the unemployment line?

5. So check out LL Bean,Appleseed's,and Talbots. Those
are the three stores that 80% of my clothing comes from, and has for many years,

The quality of all three has gone waaaaay down, and everything is made outside the country, primarily China.

I'd vote with my feet but I don't know where to go.

9. I Wrote LLBean, Got the Reply of Well, Pretty Much Everything's Made In China
now...yes it is dumbasses- but you were one of the few companies with quality union made clothes (I just had on a pair of 12 year old flannel-lined jeans) - when you and Lands End stopped selling US made goods, I'm pretty sure that had an impact. Told them I wouldn't be paying the same price for Chinese made junk. I'd be happy to shop there when they start supporting American workers.

8. I can't afford to shop at Wal-Mart anymore.
Their prices on food are outrageous and they aren't so good on toiletries and otc drugs. Their prices are good on prescription drugs and that's about it. I mostly shop at the dollar stores and a couple of local supermarkets.
