Poll question: It's been done before, time for an update - HOW OLD ARE DUers?
.
.
.

Some comments lately made me curious as to the demographics of this board.

It appears we have participants from the very young to the very old.

I wonder what the percentages are

The results of this poll will not be considered a scientific certainty

8. Every time someone checks the thread just to see the results, a "view" is scored
.
.
.

I myself have checked the thread 5 times to watch the progress of the responses.

It is that simple.

So the thread has been checked by me and others 40 times - some maybe even just to see their own position on the poll.

15. 30 was nice enough really
It was 35 which I found rough. But really, every year is a good year. I like the even number years. This year I'm 48 which are my two favorite numbers together. I'm looking forward to 84 as my next favorite year.

You gotta love what age you are!

69. Well in case I forget, have a really happy birthday!
You're so much younger than you think you are. In 15 years you'll look back and day "35, I was such a young babe! Why didn't I realize??" All in all, I'd say, life doesn't get easier, but it does get more interesting. I think forgiveness, letting bygones be bygones, is the key to staying young!

Edited on Mon Mar-30-09 10:31 PM by Jennicut
Being married, owning a house and having kids and knowing where I am going in life. 33 is easier then 23 as at that age I had just met my boyfriend (now husband), we just graduated from college, and we had no jobs and were living at home with our parents!

My partner turned out to have major mental illness, I had to change everything, money was crazy. Maybe I'm the wrong person to say anything.

But, yeah. It gets better. Like the difference between doing something and doing something easily. It's the difference between taping everything before you paint and not needing to tape anything because your hand knows what it's doing. Yeah, good years.

60. or perhaps you're seeing the
wisdom that comes with age, and what happens when you've been let down by generations of politicians?

Seriously unless you're happy with everyone totally discounting your view because you likely still live with (or at least off) your parents and haven't tried to buy a house, pay off student loans and get ahead in an economic system that is geared against you, and assuming you know SFA, maybe you might want to rethink your tawdry (not to mention way off base) assumption :eyes:

85. You can whippersnap for a few years yet, so long as you don't try hanging around the
discos/clubs or the college dances....then, you'll look like that "creepy old guy" who was always hanging out in the corner in a Nehru jacket or a leisure suit, buying the pretty ladies drinks and making un-subtle innuendo! If you've got the kiss of youth on your face, you've probably got about five more years left to play in both worlds....and then, as gravity takes its course, the boom is lowered!

was recently reminded why giving out too much personal info on discussion boards is a bad idea when your real name and details are all over the net so I'm gonna leave it at that bracket...kind of surprised to see "we" aren't the biggest bracket but then I guess all my peers are busy wrangling kiddies so the high proportion of people who's kids have likely left home is not so surprising.

78. 66 and just dumb enough to get on a ladder and scrape paint
from the siding of my house. This winter took a toll on the clapboards and I can do much of the re-staining myself. I'll commandeer someone to help with the higher spots. Don't have the $$$ to hire a crew to do the job.

I do note that we are the second biggest group on DU, at least for now.

100. Good point, - maybe all us oldsters should encourage our younger relatives to take a peek
.
.
.

It was actually one of my younger brothers that suggested many years ago to take a peek in here;

and here I am.

But you are right - we need more younguns in here.

THEY will be our future, it's always been that way.

Interesting stats from WIKI

The Baby Boom Generation is stereotypically associated with cultural touchstones like the Howdy Doody children’s TV show, Woodstock, and the Anti-Vietnam War Movement. In general, baby boomers are associated with a rejection or redefinition of traditional values

/snip/

The baby boom has been described variously as a "shockwave"<12> and as "the pig in the python."<13> By the sheer force of its numbers, the boomers were a demographic bulge which remodeled society as it passed through it.

/snip/

It is jokingly said that, whatever year they were born, boomers were coming of age at the same time across the world; so that Britain was undergoing Beatlemania while people in the United States were driving over to Woodstock, organizing against the Vietnam War, or fighting and dying in the same war; boomers in Italy were dressing in mod clothes and "buying the world a Coke"; boomers in India were seeking new philosophical discoveries; American boomers in Canada had just found a new home and escaped the draft; Canadian Boomers were organizing support for Pierre Trudeau. It is precisely because of these experiences that many believe those born in the second half of the birth boom belong to another generation, as events that defined their coming of age have little in common with leading or core boomers.
