they are despised for staging deceptions and mis-truths like this? Do they know how badly they are damaging what little credibility they still have?

Sure, this may fly with 20-30% (pure guess on the numbers) of their viewers, but the rest just kind of shrug this nonsense off. And many, like myself, who do not subscribe to MSM/cable, don't even watch them anymore.
