Is it just me, or are the biggest complainers about "socialism" the biggest leeches...
Edited on Tue Mar-31-09 01:41 PM by arbusto_baboso
While growing up, I recall a friend of my parents who tended to grouse about "welfare queens" and other undesireables draining the system and feeding off everyone else's hard work. In the meantime, this same guy was basically committing welfare fraud because his daughter was collecting welfare while living rent-free in the same house with him, her children AND the father of her children, who was working and making excellent money.

Today, I work as benefits eligibility officer in Southern California. Several of my clients tend to get self-righteous about the same range of topics as the family friend I've previously described.

What is it with people like this? Is the rightie mindset in a nutshell basically "fuck you buddy, I've got mine"????

1. What was wrong
with the guy's daughter and grandkids and their father living with them?

I fail to see your point there.

2. It was welfare fraud.
They had free rent, the old man was taking care of all the financial needs. They weren't qualified for any aid. They were committing a crime.

3. They were on welfare?
You didn't state that. I had no way of knowing.

That clears it up.

So, what? They lied about where they were living?

5. You're right. On review, the original post is unclear. I'll go back and correct that.

4. Either that or they are shocked to find out how poor
you are to qualify for any help or that there's not something for them to maintain their middle-class lifestyle.

6. I wouldn't tend to have a problem with that if the complainers I refer to weren't....
A) Usually the second or third generation on welfare or SSI.

B) People who had never worked a day in their lives or paid into the system they complain about.

C) Whites who complain incessantly about minorities and aliens.

9. I pick C!!
A relative a "DEM" totally against Obama decided to bring up how he thought he was doing.
Me:"He's done alot, Equal Pay etc...
Him: No, what is he doing for me?"
I'm thinking: Gee, the last time we talked about how terrible Bush was, you said you have done very well under him. What the HELL does Obama need to do for you, if you were doing so well?
Also refuses to live by any "minorities"

7. arbusto_baboso - The righties have always been, "F.U."
They just used to be polite enough to call us Buddy when they said it. Now they care so little, they don't even bother with the "Buddy"

10. That kind of blatantly hypocritical, selfish attitude is rampant
and entrenched here in South Dakota and in other western states. People rant and rave against "gubmint", go on and on about independence and self-reliance, yaddayaddayadda blahblah. But this state, like many other western states, would be nothing without the federal farm and ranch subsidies, the federal disaster aid for draughts, floods and blizzards, the interstate maintenance (interstate transportation is a huge part of the agricultural economy in this state), etc., etc. The New Deal brought the Rural Electric Coop, without which most of the state wouldn't have had electricity because it wasn't profitable for private companies to modernize rural areas; the CCC, which modernized the Black Hills and was a major factor in its becoming widely accessible (through building roads through previously-impenetrable woods and mountain areas, not to mention resorts that would become part of the state park system, which ignited the tourism industry upon which this state depends for a large share of its economy. Not to mention the VA hospitals and the huge numbers of seniors in this state receiving Medicare and veteran's benefits, without which many medical facilities and practicioners couldn't survive, etc., etc., etc. I could go on and on and on.

But just try pointing that out to these idiots. This state couldn't last a year without federal funding and assistance in many areas, particularly the agricultural industry, but you'd never know it around here. Yet when there's a natural disaster that affects agriculture, those screaming the loudest about independence and against government are the first ones with their hands out to that same government. Makes me crazy.

11. It's like the people who claim science is evil but have tvs, cell phones, cars and computers, or the
people who constantly declare their Christianity (and rail on non-Christians), but don't follow a single one of Christ's teachings. Right wingers don't know life without hypocrisy.

12. They'll do that
I hear that sort of thing often enough. Their justification is that they're taking back the money they--their parents--had been taxed, and usually view it as leeching the leeches.

14. Am I the only one here who...
has been forced (core requirement) to suffer through classes 'taught' by
"fuck you buddy, I've got mine" tenured ("Socialism is Not Sustainable") college professors who wasted no time in getting a permanent liplock on the 'nanny state' teat?
