Adults charged with providing alcohol to 13-, 14-year-old girls at a party
Authorities have charged a Platte County mother and another woman after they allegedly provided alcohol to several 13- and 14-year old girls at a birthday party.

When the party was over, two of the girls were taken to a hospital with possible alcohol poisoning.

Karen Christine Downs, 43, and Kelsee Guest, 25, were charged Monday with first-degree child endangerment for allegedly providing liquor and beer for the girls, said Platte County Prosecutor Eric Zahnd.

Downs is accused of offering $10 to whoever could chug a glass of vodka fastest, Zahnd said. Guest allegedly poured shots for the girls.

According to court documents, two girls, ages 13 and 14, eventually passed out after consuming alcohol at the 14th birthday party. They were later taken to the hospital. One of the girls had a blood alcohol content of .218, nearly three times the legal limit.

8. okay, I know you were being facetious, but
that was still wrong ...

at least an adult could have had some practice at being .218 ... not some beginners ...

5. Just shows you should always be careful when you let your kids go to their friend's house.
My niece was about 10 and was spending the night at a friend's house and called my sister in the middle of the night to ask her to come pick her up. My sister got there and there were no adults in the house. These parents had gone off somewhere and left these two 10 year old girls in charge of two younger siblings. One of the little ones was sick and crying. So my sister took them all to her house and the parents showed up the next day to take their kids home and apologized for the 'misunderstanding'.

A few years later, those parents were involved in a bitter divorce and the mom burned the house down and two of her kids died. :scared:

4. Shit that's too damn young. 17 used to be common when we were legal at 18
but 13 is way too young. Morons.

9. This is news?
Mind you, the adults seemed to be more reckless than some of the ones that I knew in the '70s.

But adults providing booze to kids has been going on for centuries. We just seem to be hearing about it more these days.

There's no legislating common sense.
