I hope he said he values that. I am a citizen and I value nothing that woman stands for.

4. History.. that's what she stands for..
WE may not appreciate it, but to the UK, she represents an unbroken line of royalty.. not as "important" as it once was, but she's still there, and they must like having their royals, or they would have bounced them decades ago,, :)

It's something they are famous for...and like any tourist attraction, visitors seek her out whenever possible:)

like when tourists here, go to Disneyland, or NYC, or Miami Beach :)

18. I think it might be more than that. QEII has a deep sense of service to her country.
From everything I've heard about her, she believes in service to her nation first. I don't know if it is true, but she seems genuine in that. I don't know is she passed that quality on to her kids and grandkids, though.

But, whatever. I have no say in QEII's life or position or budget, etc.

5. I hope he didn't say that
I realize he has to practice diplomacy, but to me the queen of england symbolizes a lot of what's wrong in the world including all the crap we went through for the past eight miserable years.

Eff her.

"do unto others...."
We would expect similarly gracious comments from her when visiting the U.S.

11. If He Admires What She Stands For That Would Be VALUING It
Would it not? Would someone admire a non-valuable thing? Your OP is nonsense and the basic premise of your original argument is moot.

13. Oh Yes The Torch Of Liberty Has Your Pants On Fire
He is OUR President and he is speaking on behalf of the USA, if this chaps your ass so much call the WH. The COC is not supposed to be an egomaniac like Bush, this one is speaking with diplomacy. It is not all about him dear.

20. He could have been diplomatic and expressed his admiration for what the queen stands for
without making the statement that the American people admire and value what she stands for.

14. Kings and queens stand for the idea...
That a few families possess magic blood from God that gives them the divine right to rule over all lesser beings. Pretty much the antithesis of anything that could be considered progressive. No good comes of "royal blood," save for the times it gets spilled.

24. What a strange idea
I can not recall QEII claiming divine right over anything much less referring to anyone as a lesser being, perhaps I missed that though. Regardless, I cannot see what good would come from spilling her blood, as you seem to think. I don't think you understand their form of government though.

25. I remember Liz being the only person to give Thatcher the what-for.
The royal family - since industrialization - had been the working class's only consistent ally against a parliament comprised of mercantilists.

22. Fuck politic* and diplomacy, Let all world leaders say precisely what they think whenever they want.
Wait--we just had 8 years of that and it didn't turn out well for us at all. :eyes:

*Look it up; politic is not the same as politics.
