It seems like just yesterday when I used to come here to get the real story on important issues of the day, and thoughtful analysis from the members here. But lately, the stories posted have been grossly inaccurate and over the top. And every response on a thread is some sort of flippant joke.

What's happened to the DU?!!! I can't take it for one more day!

This site was created under a set of circumstances that don't exist anymore. The only way things could have remained the same would have been for Bush to be elected to a third term, or at worst Cheney running and getting elected.

It is far easier to be unified when one is the opposition to the status quo because the shared goal is simply change. Under the current dynamic there is an entirely different goal. It is not just about defeating Bush now, it is about figuring out where to go from here.

I think it is natural that some people will want to move on if they aren't interested in the evolution that is taking place. It is certainly not worthwhile to stay and waste time in an effort that holds no interest.
