A grim subject, but it has been coming up: What resources are available for folks who are feeling
at wits end. It seems that we can't go one day without seeing a tragic parade of familial murder suicides, and I know there must be some resources, on the internet, or on the phone, or otherwise, that we can recommend to anyone we know who seems to be caught in a dangerous downward spiral.

I just think it would be good to keep a list of any of these sites/resources we hear about.

You can feel the tension in the air.

I think there is going to be a need in my hometown, maybe yours, maybe even among my own relatives, maybe among yours, and to be honest I can't tell them anything specific. I don't know where to tell them to turn. But I have a feeling that it's going to come up at some point, maybe soon.

. . . to diplomatic efforts surrounding our dual occupations.

I collect articles related to diplomacy surrounding U.S. involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan. I post them here: http://www.returningsoldiers.us/DiplomacyNow.htm

2. There are some places to go for help
Call the National Suicide Prevention hotline for help on this:

The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is a 24-hour, toll-free suicide prevention service available to anyone in suicidal crisis. If you need help, please dial 1-800-273-TALK (8255). You will be routed to the closest possible crisis center in your area. With more than 130 crisis centers across the country, our mission is to provide immediate assistance to anyone seeking mental health services. Call for yourself, or someone you care about. Your call is free and confidential.

http://www.suicidepreventionlifeline.org/ for more info.

Lots and lots of people are in a bad way. But there are also a lot of people who want to help. We will get through this bad time. It will not last forever and there are ways to get some help to get through it.

The post was vague on other needs. And maybe we should have a resource list that we can post here once a month or so. There are a lot of people in a bad way right now. They are not alone.

3. http://211.org/
This is a good place to start:

You can identify a lot of local resources and support/advocacy services just by giving them a call.
