The news gets better and better:
Newt Gingrich warns of third party in 2012

Former House speaker Newt Gingrich is warning of a third party mutiny in 2012 if Republicans don’t figure out a way to shape up.

“If the Republicans can’t break out of being the right wing party of big government, then I think you would see a third party movement in 2012,” Gingrich said Tuesday. The speech, to a group of students at the College of the Ozarks in Missouri, was recorded by Springfield TV station KY3.

3. It's actually pretty discouraging that Newt would say so...
because very few of his predictions ever materialize.

A significant third party movement would almost guarantee the GOP goes the way of the Whigs even sooner than would happen otherwise. The GOP is slowly starting to loose the south, and with it all their hopes of relevancy. I suppose if they started a significant 3rd party, they could always claim it wasn't the GOP's ideology that ultimately brought it down (even though it was).

4. The GOP is his Newt's wife, and it's dying of cancer. So he's going to divorce it for a third-party.

<snip>

Gingrich has been married three times. He married Jackie Battley, his former high school geometry teacher, when he was 19 years old (she was seven years his senior at 26 years old).<9><10> They had two daughters and divorced in 1981. She claims he "discussed divorce terms with her while she was recuperating in the hospital from cancer surgery",<11> an action that would later be used against him: In 1992, his Democratic opponent, Tony Center, ran an ad pointing out this fact.

In 1981, six months after his divorce was final, Gingrich wed Marianne Ginther.<12> He remained married to Ginther until 2000, when they divorced. Shortly thereafter, Gingrich married Callista Bisek, with whom he later admitted to having had an affair during his second marriage,<13> at approximately the same time that he was leading the Congressional investigation of Bill Clinton's affair with Monica Lewinsky.

5. Don't count him out so fast
He has been sounding very populist of late. If the dems don't start looking out for the little people, Gingrich will rope them in. How do you think Moral Majority worked?
