George Harrison to get star on Hollywood Walk of Fame
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/30033741/

<snip>

LOS ANGELES - Paul McCartney may have a knighthood, but it’s George Harrison who is receiving the royal treatment from the Hollywood Walk of Fame this month.

Harrison will receive a star on the fabled walk on April 14, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce announced Friday. His widow, Olivia Harrison, and his son, Dhani, are expected to attend the unveiling.

Harrison, who died of cancer in 2001, already shares a Walk of Fame star with all four of the Beatles, but only he and John Lennon, who died in 1980, will have their own stars.

Harrison’s, to be unveiled in front of Hollywood’s Capitol Records building, will be the 2,382nd on the Walk.

5. The article says Martin Scorcese is directing on documentary on George.
I wonder if it'll be like the one he did on Bob Dylan ("No Direction Home.").

13. Have you seen the video of the making of "The Traveling Wilburys?"
Between Dylan, Harrison, Petty, and Orbison it is breath-taking. The video. Seeing these guys. Too much!

4. George was wonderful ..........
I hope he's never forgotten. A star on the Walk is nice. And every time I see his son, it's like seeing the young George.

But those stars, they're not "honors." In fact, the person being honored - or, in this case, his family - are the ones who apply for it, and pay for everything.

I wonder if George would ever have accepted a knighthood the way Paul and Mick Jagger jumped at the chance. John, I don't think he'd ever have been considered.

That reminds me - I read somewhere recently that Paul and Ringo are going to do some kind of Beatles reprise. I find that disturbing ...............................

11. Oh, that's GOOD!
I like that. But what I read had to do with Beatles music. I'll keep watching.

Thanks for that. A very good thing!

7. Why not long when he was alive?!?!?!?!
I have never understood the "Star" selection process- just who decides and what is the criteria? This is a Beatle, for God's sake and a musical genious.... what took so long? I am thrilled he has the "star" but if it had been up to me it would have happened long ago. :toast: :headbang: :yourock: :applause:

10. i think it is that's why it has become somewhat of a joke
when you see how some people are getting it. and i think usually it's just to promote them rather than honor them.

14. Great!
I once won a t-shirt in a radio contest. The question was "who was the forgotten Beatle."

I never thought I'd win, because I was far down the line. Turned out they'd forgotten who was forgotten......!

Semi on-topic: My favorite Monkee was Peter Tork. My favorite Raider was Fang. I even had a favorite Hermit. God, I'm old!

Oh, and I loved (love) Chad and Jeremy. Saw them at a "British Invasion" tour. Sang a new song with the refrain "Baby's all grown up now, but Mama's still the same old girl."

How 'bout "Ferry Cross the Mersey"...?!

15. My story about "fang."
Back in the 80's I was working at a So. Cal. travel agency when a very nice older lady came in to book a flight. Another agent was helping her and I overheard her explaining that her son had been in a rock band back in the 60's. She said he'd be in that afternoon to pay for her ticket and then she left.

Later that afternoon I was in the back of the office when the manager called out to me asking me to bring the woman's ticket because her son was waiting for it. I grabbed the ticket and went to hand it to the customer. I looked at him, knew instantly who he was, and blurted out "Oh my God, you're Fang! I loved you when I was a kid."

He was nice about it, but I don't think he appreciated being called "Fang."

Judging by your post, we're probably the same age. One more story:

When I was a teenager I went to a Buffalo Springfield concert and the MC announced that Peter Tork of the Monkees was in the audience. I bolted my seat and launched an all out search. I finally found him at the back of the arena leaning against a door. He was with a girlfiend. I must have been making a pest of myself standing at his feet staring up awestruck at him because his girlfriend asked several times if I had a seat. He didn't say a word! I can still remember what I was wearing - a lime green suit. Ah, the 60's! Good times.

20. From the sound of it, I wouldn't be surprised if we had the same birthday!
But you were a city mouse and I was a country mouse - all I had was my records and TV....

Yeah, it must be kind of a pain to be a celebrity, but I'd be happy to make a test of that if I was paid the money to go along with it!

16. This is awesome. My daughter is in 10th grade and is working
on a project chronicling George's life for her World History Class. We live in LA. That is Spring break week, so we'll actually be able to be there. Wonderful!
