Angry psycho John McCain to Latinos: I have no use for 'You People'
Edited on Sat Apr-04-09 08:01 AM by marmar
from ThinkProgress:

Report: ‘Angry’ McCain Referred To Hispanics As ‘You People’ During Outreach Meeting

On March 11, Sens. John McCain (R-AZ), John Thune (R-SD) and Mel Martinez (R-FL) met with a group of Hispanic business leaders in the Capitol’s Strom Thurmond Room as part of an effort to reach out to Hispanic voters. National Journal is reporting that several participants in the meeting said McCain got “angry” while talking about immigration. At one point, McCain reportedly began referring to Hispanics as “you people“:

“He was angry,” one source said. “He was over the top. In some cases, he rolled his eyes a lot. There were portions of the meeting where he was just staring at the ceiling, and he wasn’t even listening to us. We came out of the meeting really upset.”

McCain’s message was obvious, the source continued: After bucking his party on immigration, he had no sympathy for Hispanics who are dissatisfied with President Obama’s pace on the issue. “He threw out (the words) ‘You people — you people made your choice. You made your choice during the election,’ ” the source said. “It was almost as if (he was saying) ‘You’re cut off!’ We felt very uncomfortable when we walked away from the meeting because of that.”

Thune, Martinez and McCain communications director Brooke Buchanan disputed the idea that McCain lost his temper. “It was a spirited discussion, but this sort of incendiary-type way that some people are characterizing it just doesn’t fit at all the tone of the meeting,” said Thune.

Regarding the use of the phrase “you people,” Buchanan said it was “in response to a question about people in general who had voted for Obama and was not meant to refer to Hispanics.” To imply otherwise is “character assassination,” said Buchanan. But, as National Journal notes, “one person’s straight talk is another person’s vitriol”:

But one person’s straight talk is another person’s vitriol. “My hands were shaking,” one source said. “I was nervous as no-end.” The senator’s comments went on for several minutes at least. And by the end of the meeting, another participant, who had supported McCain in last year’s presidential election, was so shaken by the display of temper that he decided it is good that McCain isn’t in the White House.

McCain has lost his temper over the issue of immigration reform before. In 2007, during a private meeting on the issue, a heated McCain told Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), “f*** you.” Echoing Thune’s current defense of McCain, McCain spokesman Danny Diaz dismissed the spat with Cornyn at the time as a “spirited exchange.”

8. He would've attacked both France and China
during their little 'spat' instead of breaking it up.
And then he would yell at everybody, take a nap and leave it up to his aides to solve the problem.

14. And, taking care of this economic crisis.
Oh, yeah. We don't have an economic crisis, do we?

Can you imagine where we'd be now?

Imagine McCain/Palin in the WH. It is hard to picture, but we would also have Palin's dysfunctional family taking up time that should be spent on the country. I can't imagine the mess they have going.

We definitely wouldn't have the charisma with McCain and Barbie that we have with Barack and Michelle. They have shown us such class, I can't imagine having anyone else in that position.

5. Yet another Buchanan...
'...communications director Brooke Buchanan disputed the idea that McCain lost his temper.'

Any relation to Pat'n'Bay? This particular Buchanan certainly seems to have the same capacity for lunacy as the more famous ones.

11. McCain has not been quite right for quite a while
I think something snapped when BushInc threw him under the bus in primaries before the 2000 and then manipulated him into being their candidate for 2008 saddled with Palin. This thought processes now match his physical limitations.

I feel sad for him. I honestly do. I think he probably needs to be removed from any level of any power in government and likely institutionalized for his and our safety but I still feel sad for him.

16. Clearly a bogus story
John McCain is no stranger to "spirited exchanges," and there's never been any mention anywhere of him losing his temper or even getting testy. Why, John's just a happy warrior kind of guy, always calling people "my friends" and reaching out to embrace anyone and everyone! This certainly isn't in tune with the behind-the-scenes stories about John McCain over the years.

Oh wait; yes it is. The guy's about three fries short of a happy meal, and his ticker's going to up and explode one of these days. Don't tutch the but and stay off John McCain's lawn!

20. McCain has a short fuse
He reminds me of Nikita Khruschchev as far as a world leader. Had he been elected as POTUS, I could just envision him taking his shoe off and slamming it on the podium at the G20 economic summit..McRage can become unhinged easily and thank GOD he lost to Obama!!

21. Wait. Now "you people" is on the list?
I need an update from the speech committee.

The guy is obviously old, angry, frustrated and has a temper issue. But it would take some pretzel-like twisting to make "you people" a scandal.

25. It's an indicator of intense cluelesness.
Whenever a white person starts referring to members of an ethnic minority as "you people" it's almost always to scold them for some perceived bit of misbehavior, as in, "you people need to clean up your act." It's kind of a reverse noblesse oblige thing.

24. Slowly but surely everyone is getting the picture: Repukes don't serve those who didn't vote
Edited on Sat Apr-04-09 03:58 PM by pacalo
for them. Why McCain attended this "outreach" meeting is beyond me; perhaps because the hispanics were conveniently gathered, it was a good opportunity to chastise & deny them help because they didn't vote for him?

And, thank goodness, the Repukes just don't get it in the people skills dept. There's nothing more demeaning or repulsive in addressing a crowd than the arrogant, I'm-above-you term, "you people".

I've seen how vile & demeaning McCain can treat someone in a video of a POW/MIA hearing. Here's the YouTube video.
