Richard Poplowski, American Terrorist, Killed Three Peace Officers
This is what terrorists do:
3 officers killed in Pittsburgh shooting
By RAMIT PLUSHNICK-MASTI

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh police say a man wearing a bulletproof vest opened fire on officers during a domestic disturbance call, killing three of them.

Police chief Nate Harper says the motive for Saturday's shooting isn't clear. Friends say the gunman recently had been upset about losing his job and that he feared the Obama administration was poised to ban guns.

The three dead officers are Eric Kelly, Stephen Mayhle and Paul Sciullo III. Kelly had been on the force for 14 years and the other two only two years each. Another officer was shot in the hand and a fifth broke his leg on a fence.

Terrorism. There's no other word for it. This is American terrorism, being fomented by the Axis of Beck-Savage-NewsMax-Coulter-WingNutDaily-FOX.

The demagogues that are driving terrorists such as Richard Poplowski to acts of violence against first responders and peace officers have blood on their hands and must be held to account.

10. Nope
The Tutsis did eventually do some massacring of their own, particularly in the Congo; but the Hutus effectively pioneered the explicit call to genocide through the radio.

15. I'm with you on that
He was apparently making a political stand with his guns while wearing his own bullet proof vest. I wouldn't have made the "terrorism" connection myself, but I think you summed it up simply.

I'm betting this man had some mental health problems....

McVeigh, yes, probably a terrorist, who seemed to think that level of violence would save his country. That was even scarier.

28. He's just trying to prove his point that Obama wants to take his guns.
How better to do that than to kill 3 police officers? Now the government has taken his guns. Permanently.

Or he's just a violent out-of-control illogical cold blooded killer.

8. no, he wasn't a terrorist.
it's unlikely that there was a political motive. Yes, he was apparently fearful that his guns would be taken away, but the guy was just another sicko. He wasn't trying to terrify any given group. It's silly to label him as a terrorist.

21. fine. investigate it, but please, some common sense wouldn't be amiss
here. We all know that the shootings happened pursuant to a domestic violence call. Now really, how does that sound like a terrorist attack. And we also know the guy was kicked out of Marine Corps bootcamp because he was mentally ill.

It may make a few of the racist Sheriffs who share similar views rethink their position. It will be right wing nuts killing them not progressives.

Fuck Rush, Hanity, Beck, Savage and the rest of them. They are not entertainment - they spew nothing but hate and the confused, lonely and mentally ill eat up that crap. Fuck the NRA as well.

I have to give credit to my local NC news -- they reported that that sick fuck was afraid Obama would take his precious guns away. Can't say the same for the network news I watched this evening.

I'm thinking Obama should speak up about this in his customary calm, clear manner. The themes of fear, hate media, the economy, and community service immediately come to mind.

It is our responsibility and that of the handlers of hanity, rush and the rest to tell them to cool it.

20. Such acts of terrorism are the result of years of anti-government rhetoric from the Reich-wing
We should be surprised they do not happen more often, given the hate preached by conservatives.

We should not fear calling such acts terrorism.

29. He may have been following fantasies out of The Turner Diaries
One of the other threads on this, at http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=103x438507, quotes his friend's MySpace pace as recommending The Turner Diaries along with The Protocols of the Elders of Zion and other racist works.

I just googled up a good Kos diary from a month ago on the subject:

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/3/1/15303/06680/506/700217

Eric Holders comments and the usual no-cosponsor gun control bills (HR-45) have got gun buyers lined up out the door of gun shops. There's lots of factors at work here - the local gun shop owner told me the stimulus bill included gun confiscation and state mandated euthanasia. But people were emptying Wal-mart a couple months ago anticipating that broke state governments will be releasing prisoners and the bad economy will increase property crime.

But Holder also plays into the elaborate fantasies of white supremacists as described in the infamous racist novel The Turner Diaries. It inspired Tim McVeigh's truck bombing, and it ends with a plane being crashed into the Pentagon. . . .

If you read the Turner Diaries on-line, you'll see many familiar themes that are part of the GOP mainstream. "White guilt" explains pretty much everything that does not suit white supremacists. Immigrants are to blame for pretty much everything.

And anyone that takes the Turner Diaries seriously would see the current economic crisis as very similar to the events in the book that let the white supremacists take over. They are out there cheering on Rush Limbaugh when he says "I want Obama to fail!" Like the Nazis, they see economic collapse as the key to taking over. In The Turner Diaries, they wage a national campaign of terrorism and sabotage that paralyzes the population and civil authorities while they infiltrate the armed forces. They blow up roads, power plants, ports, bridges, and isolate areas where they can take over.
