Seen at the grocery store this afternoon - a sign of the times?
Not a nice story.

I sat in the car this afternoon as my wife went into the grocery store to pick up something for us for dinner. The store is fronted by a driving lane in the parking lot which is marked "No Parking" from one end to the other. The front is protected by overhanging roof and they sell plants there and there are convenience machines against the wall.

A young lady pulled up in a late model SUV and parked the vehicle right in the middle of the no parking zone blocking one of the two lanes available for all traffic to use. The girl was considerably over weight and slovenly dressed. The world would have been a better place had she been wearing a bra under her throughly soiled T-Shirt. It was her personalized license plate that caught my eye. It read - I shit you not - "I LUV ME".

You ever see that movie "No Country for Old Men"? Good name for a movie.

3. How old was she?
And did she actually get out or was she waiting for car service?

I have to admit, I am fairly concerned about the YA population (ages ~ 18 - 28) in this country. The raging sense of entitlement rampant among this age group seems to be exacerbated only by their parents' inability to see the ultimate effects of their enabling. A few years ago, there were more than a few stories of parents who had demanded (and GOT!) teachers' resignations after their lil' darlings were caught cheating. And let's not forget the excesses of this 'Super Sweet 16' idolatry.

Ironic that during the 'Christian' Bush administration that our country's newest civic participants have seemed to have lost their moral compass entirely.

If anything good can possibly come of this economic meltdown, it might be that the circumstances that contributed to this young lady's behavior may have largely come to an end, and so far fewer of her ilk will be produced.

4. From your description I don't think she does love herself. She would
take better care if she did.

5. You mean is a selfish sense of entitlement a sign of the times? No.
It's just a growing phenomena running rampant through this country.

10. It's another consequence of 30 years of Reagonomics
when you've grown up in a country where the government embraces the mantras "greed is good" and "I am the only one that matters"; sooner or later those attitudes will infect the whole society. This is the only thing that "trickles down".

6. If she had been skinny as a model and dressed to the nines
it still would have been the act of a jerk. The appearance is irrelevant.

But I couldn't tell whether or not the driver was wearing a bra.

8. So are you upset that she parked in a no parking zone
or because she was fat and "slovenly" dressed? I really wonder why this "story" deserved a thread. "The world would have been a better place had she been wearing a bra under her throughly soiled T-Shirt"

Yesterday I went to a hardware store. I looked like a house fell on me, I was in the middle of home improvements. I parked in the no parking zone because I needed to carry out some huge pieces of wood. Where's my thread? Or do I not get one because I'm not overweight?

Since I assume you don't know this person or what exactly was happening at that moment in her life I believe the word "prejudice" applies to your post.

9. Remind me to stay out of West Virginia
>The girl was considerably over weight and slovenly dressed.<

You know what? She parked in a no parking zone. That's the crime here. The fact that she's fat and not well-dressed doesn't mean a goddamn thing to anyone who doesn't want to nail her, frankly.

I'm fat, too. I don't park in no-parking zones with personalized plates or any other time, but I'm sure my typical attire (clean jeans and t-shirt, sneakers, appropriate underthings,) wouldn't pass muster in your neighborhood.

It's nice to know that those of us who just don't fit your personal aesthetic should just stay home.

12. You just said a mouthful, and made me stop in my tracks.
I've only ever had one, ITMFA (impeach the MF already), which was pulled by the DOT within a month.
But even that one had self serving self love as the underlying motive.

13. These assholes that think they have some right to park in fire lanes while the rest of us
Edited on Sat Apr-04-09 09:09 PM by Skip Intro

follow the rules and park in the lot and walk a few steps to the front door of the store really irk me - like the rules don't apply to them. I see it all the time at the market where I shop. Usually there will be someone in the vehicle on a cell phone, looking around at everyone, to my mind, almost daring anyone to say anything to them. And one of these days, I will. I will tap on the window and ask them where I can get my permit to park in the fire line, because I sure am tired of searching for a parking spot and then having to actually walk a few paces. You know? Ask them basically "what the fuck makes you above the rules?"

Having said that, I feel sorry for the person in your story. Anybody with a license tag like that must be miserable.
