Anyone else watching My Mother's Garden on GEM$NBC
Edited on Sun Apr-05-09 09:46 PM by malaise
I remember after my dad died I decided to give their home a thorough clean. Mom was upset that I threw out some useless old junk that no longer worked, but this mother in incorrigible. My mom even thanked me after my sisters told her how fabulous the place looked after my clean up.
My parents home was impeccable compared with this mom's collection of garbage.

Our parents really become our children after a certain age.
This lady is lucky - her kids really love her.

Then again this poor lady has serious mental issues.

1. Old Age Is Their Revenge On Us
For being teenagers. My dad's still pretty cool, but my mom drives me batshit crazy. At least they don't have Alzheimers, like my friend Rose's mother. Her mom wound up assaulting the ambulance driver that was returning her to the nursing home from the hospital. Oy...

2. My fil was a hoarder
and never saw a bargain he didn't like. It took weeks to clean out the loft in their house after he passed away. He never threw anything away. There must have been at least a thousand pens and I lost count of drill bit sets after two hundred. We now have a three car garage stacked from floor to ceiling to tackle next besides seven to ten storage units. It is a tragic mental illness. We have found two cuckoo clocks from Germany that don't work also.

3. Mom didn't hoard but she held on to stuff even when
it no longer worked and could not be fixed.

4. It's sad to see
Until you experience going through all of the nonworking stuff, the papers and everything else, you can't describe it. We found a 51 disk CD player completely loaded and it didn't work. The sad thing was my fil was not a music person. I am really sorry you had to go through the sorting. It isn't easy.

The economy is so bad and I am not sure how to help my mil. I know there are French antiques in the garage surrounded by stuff from Big Lots. We are trying to find an auctioneer to help with the valuables. There isn't much of a market for flashlights, cheap tools and music CDs that no one has heard of.
