Save One Soul - and Save our Society
Edited on Mon Apr-06-09 06:52 AM by kaiden

Larry Pozner is my boss. He sent an email to us at work on Friday afternoon with this attachment that has now appeared in this morning's Denver Post. We are so proud to work for this law firm.

<snip>

I can neither change the system that allowed this to happen, nor sit silently and watch it happen. I can do precious little — but I can do something.

With the enthusiastic cooperation of my law firm, we are going to create our own little recovery program and call it SOS, for Save One Soul. Here's how it works: We are going to find somebody who desperately needs a job and we are going to put him or her to work.

We pledge to give employment to at least one more person than we need. It doesn't count if all we do is make sure we find work for everyone we currently employ. We have to add at least one employee to our business. We have to subtract at least one person from this financial morass. We have to salvage the dignity of one family.

2. This man has the right idea
How many offices are going crazy right now because too many people were let go to save "the bottom line"? They could afford to hire someone, but don't do it.

3. And this job just won't be a "filler" job.
The person we hire will have full employment and full benefits all paid for by the firm: health, dental, vision, pension, profit sharing and matching 401(k). For years, the firm has brought in lunch for us five days a week -- and that's on top of a pantry filled with food from Costco.

I cannot tell you how proud we are to work for Larry Pozner and his partner, Dan Reilly.

4. K & R- this is inspiring, and I hope others will find a way to make such a meaningful difference,
one person at a time.

6. Update. Can somebody give this guy a job?
Dear Mr. Pozner,

I have no family that needs saving, but I read your article in the newspaper and thought I should at least get in contact with you. I had planned to go back into teaching, and have renewed my license, but the state of the schools these days leads me to believe that solution to my dilemma might not end up being viable this year.

My only experience with the law has been to sue a corrupt and very messed up Los Angeles Unified School District 10 years ago, but I am fluent in English and Spanish, can learn new tasks easily, and can adapt. I realize that not having a family to support pretty much disqualifies me from the stated criteria in your newspaper article, but felt I should get in touch with you anyway, because I certainly agree with the spirit of your intentions. I'm attaching my resume, for your perusal, in case I can somehow get involved with what you're trying to accomplish, if not directly with your law firm.

Thank you for your time and consideration,

Sincerely,

7. Another response. This will break my heart, I'm sure.

Larry,

I saw your article in Colorado Voices this morning when I was reading the paper. I applaud your approach, and certainly we would all like to Save One Soul in these difficult times. However, I'm forwarding a request that appeared in my mailbox on campus here at Metro, where I am a faculty member -- saving soula daily and more so lately than ever before!

<snip>

Please consider supporting us at this level as your SOS project moves forward. Right now to put a face on my efforts, consider these students who are receiving our support:

* An older student who works in public gov't, but lacks the degree to support promotions. She's hurrying as fast as she can get complete a degree with a 4.0, but is in jeopardy of losing her position if she doesn't move fast enough.

* Another older student expecting her first child pursuing her degree was just diagnosed with cancer. Her safety nets can't reach wide enough, but without financial support from the state, her options will cease to exist.

8. I'm giving this another kick
Too bad DU is overlooking this action by someone in the private sector who wants to make a difference.

11. Thank you, thank you. What a wonderful story. At first I was worried this story was
going to be about nutty fundies, but I'm so glad I took the time to read it.

I have two heroes in my life right now. Both have gotten me the work that is currently keeping me afloat. I thank them every day for what they've done, and I hope that I can repay them someday. My hope is that everyone can find heroes like this, that we all realize that we can work together to get out of this mess.
