VT legislature may hold veto override vote on Tuesday
And they may have enough votes to do it. Fingers crossed. I'm sure the out-of-state fundies have the phones ringing off the hook. (WCAX):
The fate of same-sex marriage in Vermont could be determined within the next two or three days. The state senate is expected to concur with a few changes in the bill approved by the House on Friday, granting marriage rights to gay couples. Next, it comes down a vote by the legislature to over-ride the governor's veto.
...Political leaders on both sides of the debate expect that the vote to over-ride the governor's promised veto will be so close that it's impossible to predict. Many lawmakers on both sides are firmly committed one way or the other. But some are still weighing the opinions of their constituents. Caroline Crawford of Burlington said, "I think that marriage is something that any two people who love each other should be free to have and enjoy."

Surf over to the Burlington Free Press for a wonderful article and photo essay about Sandi Cote-Whiteacre and her wife Bobbi, who have been together as a couple for 42 years.
For the past year, the Cote-Whitacres, of Georgia, have been campaigning around the state in an effort to secure civil marriage for same-sex couples. They have appeared in print and television ads for the Vermont Freedom to Marry Task Force and they have testified before the Legislature.
Thursday's House vote approving marriage for same-sex couples by a 95-52 result was proof to the couple just how far the gay community has come. But it also served as a reminder that not everyone believes the Cote-Whitacres deserve the same rights as their heterosexual contemporaries.

"I'm still trying to wrap my head around it - how you can win and still lose," Sandi Cote-Whitacre said.

1. I'm hopeful.
But I'm trying not to get my hopes up too high. It would be so fucking great if they managed to override the bigot's veto.
