Bachmann warns gov't creating 're-education camps'
@ 1:04 pm by Michael O'Brien

The government is at risk of creating "re-education camps for young people," Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.).

"I believe that there is a very strong chance that we will see that young people will be put into mandatory service," Bachmann said on a Minnesota radio show Monday. "And the real concerns is that there are provisions for what I would call re-education camps for young people, where young people have to go and get trained in a philosophy that the government puts forward and then they have to go to work in some of these politically correct forums."

Bachmann was talking about the Serve America Act, passed recently in Congress as a way to encourage community service for young Americans.

"It’s under the guise of — quote — volunteerism," she said. "But it’s not volunteers at all. It’s paying people to do work on behalf of government."

Bachmann has been anything but quiet during this term in Congress, with her outspoken remarks often drawing the ire of liberal bloggers.

1. I have some misgivings about the GIVE Act as well
I don't like the possibility of "mandatory volunteer service"......it wouldn't be volunteering then!

Hopefully someone can clear this up.

20. When I lived in Switzerland years ago they had a similar program
It worked well and everyone was happy. Outside of kooky right-nazis like Bachman spewing the usual looney talk, what is the problem?

21. people should not be *forced* to do volunteer work by any government entity
While it could be for a noble cause, it should be a personal choice.

Plus, it would not be volunteer work.

5. You have to be educated first, in order to be re-educated
Bachmann has nothing to worry about in this regard.

6. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery
The left wing tinfoil beanie crowd were all howling about those camps for the eight years the right wing junta was in control. Remember the pictures of the freight cars with tie down loops, suitable for shackles? Where was idiot Bachmann?

Oh, right.

The more this idiot screams out her lunacy, the better it is for the rest of us. Really.

10. People who are against incentive for service are stupid.
In our imediate everything culture few "young" people would volunteer in their community or for their country because they are lazy. They get nothing in return, the good feeling that comes with helping those less fortunate than you is no longer enough. "Young" people are not able to go to college as easily as they want, it is too expensive and the idea of taking loans out and being under the burden of 20-30000 in loans discourages some. This way everyone wins, communities and the country get the help and work done that is needed and people get to go to college when they are done. More education for the masses is the best thing. but this is exactly why the neocons hate this, the only way they can hold on to any power is to have the voting public uninformed and uneducated. THis way they will believe any sensational story with pretty graphics. Its easy to impose your will on those who cannot comprehend what is happening.
