5. Schultz comes out swinging
First thing he mentions..... labor. Second thing..... health care. Then he tied them together. This is what's been needed on TV for a long time. Now lets see how long General Electric and their corporate sponsors let him get away with it.

14. This show is going to be EXCELLENT, people.
He's leading off with "OP-ED", and guns blazing on the lack of health care for 48 million Americans. He's showing graphs of average income of Americans--- $50,200, and the usual health care premium costs are up from $5,000 in 1999 to $12,000 now. We've lost 22% of manufacturing jobs.

Hell, he sounds like a liberal Ross Perot!

He says he is for the well-being of the MIDDLE CLASS.

"I am NOT going to let the conservatives talk me down"!!

Now he leads into Leo Gerard, President of United Steel Workers.

EXCELLENT, ED. Drive this dialog! You are in a lot of family rooms right now.

15. When I first heard Ed several years ago, I really didn't take to him.
He sounded like he leaned to the right on and used some of the language of the right at the time. He really has grown on me and I'm very pleased with what I'm hearing from him now. Workers need a national voice. This is a start.

Which is fine but reinflating the financial and Wall Street bubble isn't the solution.

Ed needs to cover how Geithner and Summers were instrumental in de-regulating the financial sector that allowed this mess to happen....

54. That's the tough thing about access.
If you want Obama on your radio show, well, you can't exactly rip his economic team (even if they're dead wrong according to most respected top progressive economists).

My only other criticism is that I didn't like Ed making reference to conservative talkers, etc. Why? Because the best part about him having a tv show IMO is that I'm hoping he can reach left leaning Republicans with his folksy, down to earth ways. I don't want him to alienate them and make them defensive right off the bat.

I'm guessing MSNBC thinks it was a good idea to get more progressives behind Ed but I think it was a miscalculation overall. At any rate, as I've said before I'm glad Ed has a show and let's hope he can reach independents and left leaning Republicans while making people more aware of labor issues that go largely undiscussed.

Edited on Mon Apr-06-09 05:57 PM by me b zola
When wingnuts interrupt like lars did it's not that they have a point that they want to make, it's that they don't want the audience to hear the point the progressive is making. I'm pulling for Ed and hopes that he learns to control the wingnuts better in the future.

on edit: lars just said "the democrat party". Ed can't let them run over him like this.

59. Day 2: A caller on Ed's radio show just addressed the major sticking point from last night's show.
All in all, a great kickoff of The Ed Show on MSNBC last night!

The major issue needing attention, noted last night by many, and by an astute caller on Ed's radio show today:

1. The bombastic right wing filibustering to shout down reasoned, factual discussion MUST BE STOPPED IN ITS TRACKS.

2. Whenever a right winger spouts the *Democrat Party*, Ed must give these freaks an "EDucation" on the proper use of an adjective instead of a noun. Ed must call these passive-aggressive, yet bullying tactics out immediately when they occur.

Ed sounds very appreciative of the suggestions he's receiving via email this morning about his debut.

Let's send him some feedback. This will be excellent. Ed REALLY wants to strengthen the middle class. Having him so receptive to what we think is going to prove invaluable.
