I wish MSNBC had picked Thom instead of Ed
Edited on Mon Apr-06-09 06:11 PM by librechik
1) Thom can strangle RW propoganda, Ed has trouble even acknowledging it.

2) Thom knows all the details on every story, unlike the unprepared Ed

3) We need another liberal Rachel, not a liberal Rush.

4) Ed is in it for himself. He's already talking about scarfing up overnight hours on MSNBC. Thom is in it for WE THE PEOPLE.

5) Try as I might, I learn nothing new from Ed. Thom has me brimming with new ideas all the time.

Sorry, MSNBC. FAIL.

one good point: a self-labeled liberal has a show! Success!

but IS he a liberal? Not sure...

Ed will do great to appeal to people who don't know that they are actually liberals.

Thom would be preaching to the choir.

3. The thing to remember with Ed, is you are likely not his target audience.
He can be frustrating sometimes, but he brings new people to the Democratic Party. Hartmann teaches me how to best debate RWers, but Ed's role is important, too.

8. I know what you mean, but TH is "too cerebral" for cable tv
apparently. Not suggesting that KO and Rachel are not likewise brilliant in their own ways, but Thom is so smart, I suspect he intimidated some of the "suits" who would be convinced they'd never get a "cross over" audience.

I adore Thom. But, then, I like "cerebral."

27. nope, no repeats
I don't get to see it either--I can barely stand the radio show, though he has improved some over the last few years.

I just think we have enough conservadems in the media, and that is the main reason they picked him.

Yeah, my listening is pretty intermittent. I admire his pro-union stance, but he frequently goes off on some uninformed tangent that drives me nuts. With trepidation I will wait for reports from those who follow his new tv show. :)

11. If Ed is not an informed, deep thinker, his guests should be. What was Lars and Elder doing so anti-
Obama, not acknowledging the making-up we have to do.

Katrina is forever hopeful we'll have a progressive uprising, but she's a complex thinker.

have you ever been to a church where the choir was larger than the congregation??

we don't need a choir leader...we need a gut-puncher...

17. The first half of Schultz' show was pretty good.
Then he brought two right wing shitheads on, probably at the insistence of the GE overlords. If that's going to be a regular feature on the program, then Hartmann definitely would have been a better choice, because he knows how to bury the Repuke talking points.

18. you state the obvious, something Hartmann would ALSO have to deal with to be on air:
"Then he brought two right wing shitheads on, probably at the insistence of the GE overlords."

What, Thom wouldn't have these guests on? on a corporate TV program? if that was true, Thom would be having his own show on whatever network he wished...

you can't bitch about GE, and then expect them to do something that is counter to what you (we) perceive to be their own self-interests...

They're not ultra-left 100% of the time.

Ed and Al get that to pull more people into the liberal fold, you have to talk about more than impeaching Bush and 9/11 conspiracies.

25. Give him some time,
He appeared a little nervous and not comfortable with the format , give him a week or two and see what happens. It was nice hearing from a Union leader and not have the host try to belittle him. If they are going to have right wing nuts on I hope they invite my favorite Right Wing Show host, Steven Colbert.

The local listings still don't show "The Ed Show", our Tivo wishlist is watching for it, but nothing so far, I need to manually record that time spot.

Perhaps Thom is more appealing to some DUers, but I like both of them. They each have their place and I'll give the nod to Ed for being more entertaining and he works on TV. I haven't seen Thom on TV though, so I don't know how he comes across on the tube.

54. Meh, I like Ed. Thought he did fine but someone should have warned
him not to have that repulsive Lars Larson on along with Elder. IMO, he should have either had just one of them at the very least or a left of center "media commentator". That's part of the problem with these wing-nuts that get spots on the shows...they get on there as if they some sort of moderate, rational voice then throw some shit on the wall. The host can't take up too much time cleaning up the shit and allow the wing-nut guest to derail, but the damage is done.

I like Thom, but he has repeatedly said he does not have the personality for TV and has no wish to do it. And, likewise, Thom will very often give an "well, ok" and move on when the shit goes on the wall for the same reason. It's infuriating every time it happens, and it does over and over and over and over. I must be blind and deaf, because I never heard any of our side (the few of them that even got any airtime) taking this same tactic.

Oh, and the other thing is when they bogart the time and interrupt when they're losing in the discussion. Lars tried it with Katrina (notice how he and Elder were quite polite with one another though?).
