Go find a geek, and have him/her run "Hijack This!" Don't try it yourself, you can really bollix the whole thing up, but a trained eye knows how to distinguish necessary processes from harmless ones, from malevolent ones. That, and maybe a RAM upgrade, and you'll think you bought a new computer.
