Time to pull a Bolton during the recess?
Remember the outrage over Bush appointing John "Bombs Away" Bolton to the UN during a Congressional recess?

It's Goose and Gander time.

As noted over at http://thinkprogress.org/2009/04/04/nominees-held-up/">Think Progress, quite a few Obama nominees for various position are being held up by the "Straight Up Or Down Vote" party. We have no Ambassador in Iraq because of these Republican obstructionists. (Thank you, Sam Brownback)

If you have a moment or two, maybe you could send an email to the White House or a news outlet hungry for something to talk about and suggest that President Obama follow George's lead and appoint Tammy Duckworth, Dawn Johnsen, Chris Hill, Harold Koh, and Ashton Carter while Congress is away for their recess.

If for no other reason than to watch all the Right Wing talking heads who supported Bolton's appointment go berserk with hypocrisy...

1. So what is evil when done by Republicans is good policy when done by Democrats?
I believe the correct term is "hypocricy."

3. The difference is the Dems were not and are not the obstructionists.

24. They weren't?
It was repubs in the repub-majority House and Senate holding up most * appointments?

In some cases, that was the case. Not in most cases. Perhaps "obstructionist" is the key word in your post. But like "terrorist," one party's obstructionist is the other party's "speaker of truth to power." One seldom is proud of obstructing good and facilitating bad.

Then there were the attempts by the Dem Senate to prevent recess appts. by *. Purely on principle, mind you; so they held pro forma sessions during breaks and recesses lest recess appts. trump Senate prerogatives. I wonder if the Senate will continue this practice under Obama to protect its authority. Probably not.

4. yea

8. The difference is that our evil is righteous while their evil is evil.
I think that "evil" is overstating the case in this point. Any political tool that is legitimately available should be able to be used. Again, no matter what tool is employed when we use it we consider it to be good, but if Republicans use it then it is bad.

21. I am saying that Democrats called it evil very time Bush did this
You will forgive, I hope, my cynicism when I see Democrats using tools out of the Bush toolbox.

5. Works for me. Play hardball with the fuckers.
They're not going to play nice, so why should we?

Use every dirty trick in the Beltway to get our agenda implemented, and if the Rethugs squeal like stuck pigs, so much the better!

7. Two wrongs don't make a right.
It's hypocritical to condemn it when * did it and then do it when Obama's in charge.

11. I don't fucking care if it's unfair. Politics is a full-contact sport.
As far as I'm concerned, we do whatever it fucking takes to dominate the fuck out of them. We can worry about fairness later, when the rethugs aren't playing obstructionist.

I don't care. I don't even consider them full-fledged human beings. It's open season now.

12. Yeah, there's just one small problem.
I really do understand your point. The only problem is that we can only take that reasoning for far. If the Republicans are just fine with using every dirty trick in the book and we insist on being angels, it has and will continue to cost us dearly.

Does that mean we should become just like them? No. But here and there I don't see a problem with getting some dirt on our hands, provided it's legal AND an important issue.

13. I think you are right.
I'm tired of seeing dems sit back and do absolutely nothing for fear of making the thugs mad. They are already mad, and I mean that in the crazy sense.

25. Exactly.
I know it's a very fine line and I understand why some are against the idea, but I'm in the middle on the issue between being an idealist and a pragmatist.

15. I have found lately that hypocrisy is how this system works. And as for
DU, well who'd have thunk that the same people who bitched so loudly about lawlessness, unethical behavior, and pandering to corporate America when Chimpy was pres are so damn in favor of it now.

recess appointments are in order. We have to keep moving the government in spite of the obstructionists. As I tped that, the visual of a red faced 2 year old child hanging on his parent's leg screaming at the top of his lungs "NO"
