MSNBC to go HD in June... woohoo!
I got to see Keith Olbermann in HD on Bill Maher about two weeks ago. Keith looked good in HD, exactly as I pictured him to look. I can't wait to see all my favorites in HD!

Call your cable operators!

MSNBC To Go HD in June

MSNBC will begin telecasting in 1080i High Definition on Monday, June 29. MSNBC president Phil Griffin made the announcement today at the Cable Show in Washington, D.C.

MSNBC will build on the NBC News HD infrastructure already in place, including two full HD control rooms and HD graphics. MSNBC has been using two HD-ready studios since their move to 30 Rock in October 2007.

2. HD is expensive... I didn't even know that Fox was available in HD...
Fox has been available in HD since last year, apparently. I've never heard of that...

Comcast here in California has CNBC in HD, so I get to see Lou Dobb's jowls on my 63-inch plasma... yuck!

Need HD Rachel (and her moles)... and Chrissy (aka Tweety)...

4. Woo---WHO cares?
Does news look better in widescreen? Don't you know all HD must be framed so that the essential part of the picture MUST be in the center, so we sensible people who didn't go broke buying wide screen TV's can still watch?

7. That's true to a point...
Full HD networks don't require center-cut protection. Only networks that also feed standard def require it. Networks like DiscoveryHD, which is ONLY a HD network, can air non center cut protected media.

8. Sensible? You mean luddite.
It's been 10 years since they arrived, and 20 years since they were announced. Evolve.

Once the old square analog signals go away, then 4X3 will be gone too, and you'll have letterbox for the rest of your TV's life.

11. Know what a director said about Cinemascope?
"At last we have a medium that shows a snake to better advantage than a man." Another said "Marilyn Monroe will have to lie down before we can get a good look at her."

My point is that wider screens will not compensate for the narrow vision of the megacorporations that run all our TV programming. It isn't even visually necessary. About the only genuine television programming a wider screen is good for is sports, and all sports are evil, so that's no argument.

12. HD is required in order to keep up with the competition when a major speech or any event
such as the inauguration is taking place. I can guarantee people dvr'd CNNHD over MSNBC during the debates & inauguration.

10. Comedy Central is "springtime" according to Dish Network.
I just found a new channel last week. GreenHD. It's got Ed Begley Jr. where he drives his wife nuts over his enviromental buying habits, Bill Nye the science guy's new show about things that impact the planet, and a few other shows. It's a Discovery channel.

Once ComCent goes hi-def, then I'm cancelling my script to regular def TV (Dish lets you do that for a cheaper bill), and going HD only. Daily/Colbert is the only standard shows I watch anymore. I'm spoiled.
