More Patients With Headaches, Back Pain, Depression Visiting Doctors

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Central Florida medical facilities have seen a spike in patients with stress-related symptoms over the last 45 days, and doctors say the increase is linked to the ailing economy.

Dr. Scott Brady, medical director of Centra Care, said when the economy takes a downward turn, more patients suffer from headaches, back pain and depression.

"When the stress in life starts to accumulate, a month or two later you will see people's physical symptoms begin to build and build," Brady said.

Marissa Sgambati, a mother of two who works full time and attends grad school, recently visited her doctor because she was not feeling well.

"I could not see correctly. So that happened first, and then it went into a headache, feeling of nausea and then as that progressed -- it lasted about an hour or so -- then it went into numbness in the left arm," Sgambati said.

Maybe we should tax stressed out people - they are increasing my health care costs :)
