When I tell hubby Dave is sick in a few minutes, I'll be hearing this all night. He knows every single note by heart - trust me on that.:D
An absolute classic!!

7. Oh, man--the memories this tune evokes. 50 years, huh?
Hardly seems possible!

Be well, Dave. You have my everlasting gratitude for all the joy you have given this tired old cynic!

6. Wow, I'm ashamed to admit I presumed he had died...like some time ago. I met
and chatted with him and Joe Morello between sets in a Dallas club on Mockingbird back in.......good god, must have been 1964?? Yikes. He is absolutely one of the greats.

10. He sure is one of the greats.
He hasn't done a lot of travel (let alone touring) in the past decade, but his sons are very active on the West Coast. They're worth a listen--very different from Dave and from each other, but still some great music from some great guys.

:hi:

8. I love how Take Five was used in the film Pleasantville
The kids play it on the jukebox and color begins to spread through their world.

Be well, Mr Brubeck.

9. Maybe the only hit song in 5/4 time in pop/jazz music history
Patrice Rushen had a popular jazz hit in the 1970s in 5/4 but nothing like Take Five.

17. Thanks, but I'm confused?!?
I have heard that tune many times, but never realized it was 5/4. Both the comments of the youtube video you link to and wiki and other google returns say it is in 9/8 time. But isn't 9/8 time just like a triple waltz time?

Rondo is really complicated to count beats on, but I hear 5/4, not 9/8.

Is that right?

18. Dunno the timing, sorry for confusion.
Blue Rondo is actually taken from a Mozart:

Interesting that these 2 always struck my ears/heart, and didn't realize until recently that they're related!
