35. Here's Dubya sucking face with King F*ckwad:

So its like this: Obama made a courteous gesture towards Queen Elizabeth -a Head of State of a free country, who is a ceremonial figure only- who represents a royal family that *long ago* reliquished their authority.........and Bush practially gives a hand release to the absolute monarch of the one of the world's most repressive governments. Nice.

Edited on Thu Apr-09-09 09:03 PM by The Velveteen Ocelot
If a Democrat does it, it's wrong, no matter what it is. If Michelle hadn't touched the Queen (and I take strong issue with referring to the Queen as "the bitch," btw), she would have been wrong for observing royal protocol. If Obama hadn't (possibly, but I don't think he did) bowed, he would have been criticized for being rude. It doesn't matter what he does.

12. The Queen hugged Michelle
April 2, 2009

Michelle Obama charms Queen
By Jennifer Quinn, THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

LONDON - Michelle Obama's meeting with the Queen began with a handshake and ended in a hug.
U.S. President Barack Obama and his wife arrived Wednesday. After separate meetings on the eve of the G20 summit, the couple attended an evening reception for world leaders hosted by the Queen.
Michelle Obama clearly made an impression on the 82-year-old monarch - so much that the smiling Queen briefly wrapped her arm around the president's wife in a rare public show of affection.
It was the first time Obama - who is nearly a foot taller - had met the Queen. She also wrapped her arm around the monarch's shoulder and back.
A Buckingham Palace spokesman who asked not to be identified because of palace policy said he could not remember the last time the Queen had displayed such affection with a visiting dignitary.
"It was a mutual and spontaneous display of affection," he said. "We don't issue instructions on not touching the Queen."

and the Queen (under intense public pressure) returned to Buck House, she stopped outside the gates amazed at the pewkish public pile of wreath-laying and actually TALKED to one of her subjects??!!!!!

This was the first time outside of prearranged ceremonial thingys that a Brit monarch had actually voluntarily talked to a pleb citizen since her father King George at the end of WWII.

Fuckin' amazing.
Or not

It's called 'go-walkabout' when she dives into crowds.

When on vacation she goes into shops and pubs and wears ordinary clothes.

She actually TALKED to one of her SUBJECTS?!?!?

I guess that makes up for all the raping and pillaging of the monarchies of GB?
No, it doesn't. But the very idea that it might amaze anyone that another person would stop and talk to another is crazy.

This 'monarchy are special' bs needs to be done away with once and for all.

While this lady may be a bitch, or she may not be, doesn't matter. It's what her position stands for is what is a bitch.

Did you confuse 1776 with Alice through the Looking Glass or what? Yes, she talks to people. Perfectly normal.

And since it isn't your country, it really isn't your place to judge.

34. Not my place?
Sir, do you even know what you say? Not my place?

Did you know that my ancestors came to this country to get out from under the thumb of the monarchies? Why exactly then did the hungry huddled masses, striving to be free, come to America?

They came to be free of the gawd-damned kings and queens of Europe.

I, sir, will not dishonor their agony and victory over the kings and queens.
I will side with them and hope like hell that one day all men and women are free, free at last from slavery and serfdom.

God slay the kings!!

21. If you want anyone to give a shit what your opinion is...
perhaps you should refrain from referring to the Queen as the "bitch in England." :eyes:

I mean, I'd never refer to her as "Your Royal Highness" or "Your Majesty," but seriously, just cavalierly referring to her as the bitch in England? What the fuck did she do to you to offend your oh-so-delicate sensibilities?

Not to mention that the whole "protocol" thing was a fabrication of the tabloids trying to find something to criticize Michelle on, since she was being pitch-perfect. The Royals didn't say shit about it.

27. the queen isn't a bitch, for goodness' sake... she didn't take the throne by force or anything
She was born. That's how she got her job. It isn't fair, but she didn't do anything wrong to get it. And she does her job with diligence and a real sense of responsibility. She doesn't use her position to party or live a shallow, spoiled life, like some members of the family do. However we may feel about a hereditary monarchy, it's not fair to call her personal names.

Okay, so having said that... she demonstrated her feelings about our new president and his wife in a very public and absolutely unmistakable way. She's not allowed to voice her opinion about politics or politicians, so what she did was exceptional. I think it was not only a way of saying that Britain likes Obama, it was a poke in the eye to Bush, who got a much frostier (though polite) reception. What's not to like about a person who does that?
