I just saw the Bill Maher show and loved it
He's changed everything in the show except the New Rules part which was always good. He just interviewed Ron Howard and Gore Vidal, and it was really good. Both of his guests are cool and very different. I totally enjoyed the show.

I guess he realizes he either can't go with the format of dissing the sitting President or he realized trying to be critical of President Obama is simply going to be the death knell for his show.

I like it when someone is creative enough to bend with the prevailing wind. It shows Maher isn't just a giant ego who's set in his ways, and can't see that times have changed.

2. You cannot miss with Gore Vidal
He's my last hero left - Vonnegut is gone - and he's wonderful.

Maher leaves me cold, but I'll catch it later for Vidal. Thanks for the heads-up................

4. You won't be disappointed, but

For a second the camera shows that Gore Vidal is in a wheelchair, and he looks frail. But his wit is as sharp as ever. At the end he does stand up, so obviously he isn't wheel chair bound. Bill Maher said something very similar to what you said about Gore Vidal.

You'll like Ron Howard too.

5. Yes, he's frail -
since his longtime companion died, Mr. Vidal seems to be slowly failing. I knew he was in a wheelchair - he used a cane for years, and then, for a while, I saw him using two canes.

Old age, deterioration. What can you do? I'm thankful he's hanging around. Loved that Buckley pre-deceased him.

He wrote a two-volume autobiography that I strongly recommend. A lot of dish, wonderful stories, and, of course, amazing writing.

Thanks for the info.

just give us a little recap of what he talked about -- Obama/Banks/War???

Odd -- today I was trying to watch C-span II on internet and no sound . . .

then tonight, this video -- and yesterday one of the videos from another DU'er

was very, very low no matter how high I turned it up.

But I just checked my media music and plenty of sound ... so I don't know what's

going on???

11. It was a wide variety of subjects because Maher loves what he has said in the past
Let's see. They talked about Buckley for a moment. They talked about religion, both of them obviously being anti-religious. Maher showed an actual part of a film of Vidal as a ten year old who flies one of the first airplanes because his father wanted him to to show that a certain type of airplane was so simple that even a ten year old could fly a plane. He basically demolished Sarah Palin with one comment, They dissed Bush and his administration and more all with Vidal's superb wit.

One thing I liked was that Maher was actually quite humble with Vidal. And that seems to be the right way to be with him. I certainly would be.

9. Yeah, it was refreshing.
No little goofy skit up front... i do kinda miss the little short segments with a variety of people (whether up on the cool screen or them sitting on a couple of stools) but although I thought I'd really miss the "roundtable" approach he normally has, I really enjoyed this one.

and of course, I love Ron Howard, growing up with him and all, and to see Gore Vidal again was a treat. Viva Vidal!

12. AMAZING - simply amazing....
"I believe we see many things in the same way dear"

Gore Vidal was astounding.

If this is the new format for Real Time with Bill Maher, where do I sign up?

16. Here is a link to YouTube
that was posted on a different thread.

I did not realize Maher changed the format. I think that I liked the previous one, with give and take by different people - once he selected the right panelists.
