A German view of the economy -- inflation is coming.

The German finance minister, Peer Steinbruck warned about the danter of worldwide inflation in the wake of the deficit financing of the current economic policies. "So much money is being pumped into the market that the danger of overburdening the capital markets and an international inflation as economies swing upward could be a threat," the politician of the German Socialist Party told the Bild-Zeitung.

Thought I would post this because we are hearing that there will be no inflation -- and I don't believe it. I agree with the Germans.

1. The fact that he is a socialist already discredits his viewpoint.
This is America, not Europe. We advocate a policy of "pulling yourself up by the bootstraps." Only those damn socialists advocate pansy-ass policies that coddle the lazy like the minimum wage or social security. :sarcasm:

In all seriousness, I believe that when the economy does swing upward, with the current deficit spending, there is a danger of rampant inflation like the 1970s again and possibly worse followed by a painful regimen of interest rate hikes to combat inflation. We already suffered a fair amount of inflation thanks to runaway gas prices, and we don't need another round of price increases outstripping people's wages.

It could get bumpy.

4. -
Well, the translation to "German Socialist Party" wasn't really correct as the S in SPD stands for social (democratic) and they are usually called Social Democrats.

7. It usually doesn't matter. Republicans still label it "socialist," usually in the pejorative sense.
Anything left of center is considered extreme to Republicans here.

3. Inflation = too much money chasing too few goods.
Facts on the ground: too little money chasing too many goods.

Or possibly: too little money in the hands of most people, too much in the hands of a few.

5. Inflation = the elite printing money from thin air to pay the dumb working class
to fight their wars and work in pointless jobs just to keep the pyramid society standing.

6. except they're *not* paying the working class, they're paying themselves
& laying off the working class.

as for printing money out of thin air, that's the norm.

times are deflationary.
