America is done for
With the direction our country has gone in the past 60 years, I've concludedthat the America that we were all taught about in school with the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and Bill of Rights, liberty and equal justice for all, is dead and not coming back. All I see around me is war, crime, bigotry, deceit, greed and cynicism. The political parties have sold themselves to the highest bidder. Foreign countries like Israel drive our foreign policy. The Republicans have become overtly evil, stripping all the freedoms they claim to be protecting and the Democrats prove time and again that they lack the will to stop that evil. When elections are subverted, they don't even raise a peep. They eagerly eat up the jingoistic bullshit used to justify the pillaging of other countries and our environment. The rest of the world is lining up to dine on our corpse once it starts kicking around. Our economy is in shambles, we are reduced to a nation of paupers. Voting is an exercise in futility, every election its the same old stiffs that couldn't care less about the people, only about lining their own pockets and their own self-aggrandizement. The list can go on and on.

I've voiced my outrage at our sitiuation only to be called a far lefty and an idealistic idiot.

So now, I simply give up. This country is no longer worth fighting for. If I could move, I would. But we have tainted every country on this planet so there is nowhere to escape to. I'm no longer going to bother with voting, it won't count anyway, having been stolen by black-box machines with no accountability. Neither party even bothers to represent me and most of the people anymore, they exist solely for the wealthy elites and the corporations. And besides the only candidate for president worth voting for won't win because he's not photogenic enough. The fix is already in. I'd be surprised if we even have an election next year.
I've tried to resist despairing about our country but it's all been for naught. It's dead, Jim.
So what do we do now? I don't know. I guess I'll just look out for me and mine. That seems to be the way to go. Citizenship is a worthless concept these days. As a country we'll be lucky to avoid civil war, we're so polarized. In a few years we'll more closely resemble Bosnia. To all of you that still value freedom, stock up on guns and ammo, you'll need it. When this war is over, Bush and his cabal will be turning their Shock and Awe on us. It'll be like Chile circa 1973, writ large.
I hope I'm wrong. but my eyes tell me different.

122. And I will gladly stand by your side in that respect
The sad thing is he fails to realize that the obstacle is himself as well as those who simply will not wake up to the fact of how truly serious this is.

Americans are becoming a bigger enemy to themselves than the monsters who they employ to endanger them.

So desperate are we to believe that this can all easily be wiped away and reversed by an election cycle.

The Broken Record will keep on playing after 2008 as well.

5. Sure, but sixty years ago, about 1945
We brought nazis into our Government - Operation Paperclip. That action has finally borne it's rancid fruit.

9. I just thought that 60 years ago was a bit arbitrary...
although, if you're going to point the finger at that era, I'd say the National Security Act of 1947 has a lot more to do with the current state of affairs than providing refuge for some Nazi scientists.

13. The key prize of Paperclip was Reinhard Gehlen
formerly of the Gestapo. They puled him in and he convinced the Gov't that there was a Soviet threat. This lead to the National Security Act. It's all related.

27. You'll hear no mockery from me.
I'm with ya.
I just re read Antony Sutton's book, "Trilaterals Over Washington."
When you feel a little better, look it up online- there are
several sites that have it in PDF to read at your computer,
a stiff drink in hand.
Read it when you have the time.
You will learn that you are not imagining anything-
It is far worse actually than what the average
citizen comprehends., and it has been going
on for decades.

43. Here is a link to an online copy of Sutton's "Trilaterals" book
http://sandiego.indymedia.org/media/2006/10/119694.pdf
From the introduction:

"...However, in populist political circles the Trilateral Commis-
sion is a transparent device to achieve New World Order,
which sound suspiciously like other dictatorial "World
Orders." From this viewpoint Trilaterals are enemies of
freedom and intent on gaining a monopoly of world political
power for their own benefit.
Twenty years ago the Trilateral Commission had very little
history; one could not track its intentions from its actions.
Today, in 1994, one can look at 20 years of Trilateral history
and more accurately assess their objectives in the light of
past political actions and member appointments to various
Administrations."

About Sutton at Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antony_C._Sutton

More links to his work and an interview.

If you read his work, you begin to see what you
view in the current world situation much differently
and with far deeper understanding as to what you are seeing
and who benefits.

Hope this helps.

79. Look, don't get me wrong
I would love to see this administration start paying for its crimes. I'd even love more to see mouthy pissant little freepers get some fistface time. My point is that it is beginning to happen now. I agree with you about Dean, but remember he is now head of the DNC, and perhaps the biggest part in the change we have seen these last 6 months has been due to his work.

Things are changing, and for the better. Imagine it like a train. Picture a locomotive starting up. The wheels spin a lot, and don't have any traction at first. Give it a short period of time, and the train is moving. A little more, and it is a serious force to be reckoned with. We're just getting started right now.

who feels the same way a lot of the time.
I tell him: "Just be glad you aren't living your life
in 10th century Europe." and he realizes things could be much worse.

To paraphrase Rummy: Sometimes you just have to live the life you have,
not the life you wish you had."

What if civil rights activists just gave up?
What if equal rights activists just gave up?
What if everyone fighting for Democracy just gave up?

You sound tired and worn out.
Don't give up. Just take a break and get some rest.
Things are getting better despite the lack of evidence.

They have this golden opportunity but they're quaking in fear that Lieberman might leave so they offer up toothless non-binding resolutions.
They need to start having these Rethugs arrested and imprisoned, not playing pattycake with them. Why is Rove still walking free? Why isn't he is Gitmo? Why isn't Ann Coulter in jail for voter fraud? Why aren't the impeachments starting? Why is Fox News still allowed to broadcast? It seems they've given up before they've even started.
If the Dem Congress wants my support, they better grow some huevos and pronto.

Are military is now a paper tiger. We couldn't even pacify a third world country decimated by a previous war and twelve years of starvation sanctions.
Our economy is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of China. If you wanna succeed, you better learn Mandarin pronto!

Don't kid yourself about crushing Russia and China. It'll never happen, Hitler and Napoleon couldn't beat Russia. China has waaaay too many people to be defeated. Iraq has decimated our military beyond repair for the next couple of decades. Besides, Russia has greater energy resources than we do and China is our biggest creditor. If they wanted, they could easily squash our economy simply by floating the yuan. If they do that, our dollars will be worth the same as the Mexican peso.

A Dream Deferred
By Langston Hughes

What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it dry up ?like a raisin in the sun? ?
Or fester like a sore-- ?And then run?
?Does it stink like rotten meat?
?Or crust and sugar over-- ?like a syrupy sweet?
Maybe it just sags ?like a heavy load.
Or does it explode?

59. they're finally banning plastic bags...
i'm no more a bother lover then anyone: yes plastic bags are a friggin convenience, as is tossing junk out the window, but mygod why weren't those stupid enviroment-destroying things banned long ago? to watch the men who run society work is to witniss endless stupidity. and if that's true here, in america where we have the vote, and are on the cutting edge technically, then what chance does a brutalised world where 1/2 the people have never made a phone call have? our movies draw em in all over the place (was it 2 billion people watching the goddam academy awards?) and, one might think, almost 2 generations after we went to the moon, still the jokers running the most sophisticated goddam country on earth finally recognised that free plastic bags as a bad thing? ...why is marijuana illegal when only 100 years ago it was among the nation's main crops (hemp) yet no one could face the fact the drug, alcohol and textile industries schemed to make pot illegal, SCHEMED against the public knowing what was going on, just in order to feather their stinking nests! And that was ok? it was ok to have the oil/auto industries buy up and destroy the city rail transit systems throughout the nation? And the electric car? they killed it in secret, but that was ok because the big tough brilliant alpha men in power said so? We are the humpty dumpty of human societies, precisely because we glorify the authority figure in society at the same time those fukking dingbats can't see, for example, that plastic bags, tens of billions of them given out free, are wasteful, harmful and only of benefits to the oil comps!
bush represents them guys very well.

The only place I'm listened to is on the intertubes..

The funny thing is that everyone in real life that knows me knows that I'm far better informed than they are and yet they won't listen to me and they get angry if I try to talk anyway.

I was in a debate on Salon.com letters section last night and today. Out of all the people posting there I only got one to see my point about the invalidity of "unalienable rights".

It is discouraging.

130. The coup was implemented on 11/22/63, the day
democracy died, and it has been downhill ever since. The grand economic royalists' conspiracy greatly accelerated with Reagan, who permanently lowered the country's collective IQ by 30%, Bush 1 and has reached its apotheosis with Chimpolini and the utterly corrupt Cheney neo-conmen.

The thing that has to be realized is that the reich wing has never stopped fighting the New Deal. These scumbags and bloodsuckers have been around in one form or another for over seventy years. Eisenhower knew that he had to keep a close eye on the military-industrial complex and knew it for the danger it was. It is no coincidence that the plan was implemented against the first post-Ike president.

Sadly, I am afraid you are right.
