Bill Maher... Real Time W/ Gore Vidale
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRy_ocyB3bQ

the interesting part is when Gore (Eugene) talks about the republican party. "its not a party so much anymore, but a mindset..."

4. what a shitty interview. Bill was in way above his head.
Gore Vidal is a substantial person with substantial and informed views and ideas. Bill Maher is incapable of much more than reading and repeating lines. I would have loved to hear Vidal's views on how we measure against the Roman Empire, our loss of Constitutional rights and even more about the Obama team. He was reduced to simple responses and one liners. I don't think Bill can deal well with guests who actually have important insights. He did much better with Ron Howard, perhaps because he was on familiar ground.

7. Bill was doing his best Charlie Rose.
It wasn't good enough, imho.

9. I kinda saw it the other way. Mahrer seemed to be trying to prod Gore into
elaborating on his answers. I keep wishing that Gore would say a little more then his one liners, which while good, only scratched the surface.

5. Revenge of Howard Beale
First a half-hour interview with Ron Howard followed by the same with Gore Vidal.

If I want to watch this format I will tune to Tavis Smiley or Charlie Rose.
The old format is a winner and the new format is a loser with a capital “L”.

Even the New Rules segment at the end of the Howard interview sounded and looked like it was written by a new and vastly inferior staff.

Yes Bill, keep this format and go the way of Howard Beale when he became serious and un-animated.

6. This is one of those "MUST SEE" episodes
and Gore Vidal, agree with him or not, is a true treasure. It's very watchable because his comedic timing is even better than Maher's, although his wit is subtle and dry as the Mojave.

He's been very ill over the last year but looked remarkably well last night.

The format was also much improved, with no token right winger to yap yap yap yap yap so that Vidal's words could not be heard. He is very soft spoken and would have been lost completely in the usual format.

10. Me, too. Enjoyed both parts.
Ron Howard was very genuine and refreshing. He came across as a good-natured man who truly wants to do what is right. And Gore Vidal is a national treasure. What a witty and incisive man. I love him.

11. I loved how
Ron Howard explained reliving his past roles in that Youtube Vid endorsing Obama...

"I woke up one morning and said ... Oh Shit... I knew if I did not do it, I wouldn't be Happy with myself."

As we all know Ron had said he would NEVER reprise those old roles. I am Thankful he sacrificed for Obamas endorsement.
