What's dropping as much as GM stock? GOP approval rating
What's dropping as much as GM stock? GOP approval rating

By David Lightman | McClatchy Newspapers

WASHINGTON — Republicans have spent the first hundred days of the 111th Congress mostly down and shut out.

While there's a realistic hope that they'll be more involved in some upcoming policy decisions, the GOP still has a long way to go before the public sees it as constructive and cohesive rather than obstructionist and unruly.

"There are seasons in politics, and right now it's winter for the Republicans," said Jack Pitney, a congressional expert at Claremont McKenna College in California.

Polls indicate that the Republicans' approval ratings remain dismal: A March 27-29 Gallup poll found the congressional GOP approval rating at 30 percent, down 6 percentage points from a month earlier.

"The real issue is that the party is not being seen as constructive. They're not seen as voicing solutions to problems," said Andrew Kohut, the president of the Pew Research Center. "People don't feel they understand what Republicans stand for — not even members of the party."

A Pew poll taken March 31-April 6 found that only 41 percent of Republicans thought the party had clearly explained its opposition to Democratic initiatives, while 42 percent said it hadn't explained things clearly enough.

2. We could use an Ice Age.
It will take many, many, many years to undo all the damage that bunch has done. I'm not just talking dubya. In reality it goes all the way back to reagan. They need to remain in the cooler for a long time, to give us enough time to fix everything.

6. One reason they cannot see what they are doing and why they just
keep on putting their foot in their mouth is that their constituents are as rabid as they are and keep cheering them on. None of them notice the lost popularity rates or the fleeing party members. They should just keep it up.

7. I think they have always put their foot in their mouths
The media made sure during the last previous 28 years that the Repugs looked like the saviors of the country. By covering up and blatently ignoring stories and the truth.

The truth can't be hidden anymore and the Repugs numbers will continue to tank. They have never had anything positive to contribute to the betterment of the country and we are living and experiencing the results of their policies.

10. I understand what republicans stand for
Hard headed, fear driven, aristocratic policies no matter what is good for the country or what the majority of the public wants.

13. Question - I just looked at Glenn Becks 9/12 site & guess what, he only has 514,000 members.
Where are all the "millions" that he and rush are supposed to have behind them? Is there anyway to show what Rush Limbaugh, Hannity and Beck's real listenership is? I wonder just how many are really going to show up for these "tea parties".

:silly: As Ed Schultz says on his show: "Psycho Talk!"
