Let me see if I understand this...
We spend $650 Billion dollars a year on a military budget...we have the strongest and most well equipped military in the world...we've got jets, helicopters, Special Forces, satellites, missles, submarines, aircraft carriers and shit that the public doesn't even know about...and we can't fucking rescue a guy held hostage on a powerless, dead-in-the-water lifeboat by a few idiot Somali pirates?

WTF.

Just WTF...

:wtf:

1. I think they're trying to avoid getting the captain killed. Did you see
the pod the pirates are in? Kind of difficult to get in there without anyone noticing.

7. That wouldn't sink it. It would still float if full of water
Edited on Sat Apr-11-09 06:58 PM by Wiley50
Those things like most boats these days consist of a FOAM CORE between a fiberglass or other plastic inner and outer shell.

They'd be miserable, but they would float

6. They are trying not to kill anyone...
We could just blow it out of the water to set an example.

They are going to wait them out until they give up. Eventually the pirates are going to run out of food water and ammo. The US Navy won't.

8. They better hurry. They are now only 20 miles from shore
That's right. Three days ago when this started they were 300 miles off shore

But currents have pushed them toward the coast. The wind too if it's blowing that way.

Soon, they're buddies will sight them on the horizon and then just take a skiff out and tow them in.

The navy will still be sitting there watching with their thumbs up their butts

10. Park the destroyer between the lifeboat and the shore. Simple enough.
In fact take the destroyer right up next to it, get point a bunch of guns at it and let them know they aren't going anywhere as in the scene from the James Garner movie "Tank" where he tells the deputy, "I think I've got you covered".

17. Unless it is the countries we invaded and won
Like Germany, Japan, and Korea.

The North capitulated in Vietnam. Had we stood behind the Paris peace accords there would still be peace.
