i am going to go out on a limb here as i come from a society with arranged marriages, and dowries and daughters being used to cement relationships, its a big part of other cultures and unless you are going to govern everyone at gunpoint then you are not going to force changes on them. Its something the west is going to have to live with as i dont see other cultures giving way to what you could call american norms.

in my culture many times younger girls are married off to cement family relationships, and beleive it or not they can be non sexual relationships with the girl eventually being adopted so to speak into the family as a daughter, in a lot of cultures relationships like these are used for many different reasons, not that i think that paying debts of is a good reason, but it does happen.

Americans have any respect for other cultures. While incidents that happen in other countries are put under a magnifying glass, there is little interest in changing the multitude of horrific things being done in this country on a daily/hourly basis. HOWEVER, after reading brother Sam Shamoun’s articles (1, 2), I realized that the Quran, the Hadith, and Muslim scholar’s writings state that a Muslim husband can engage in sex with a child-bride before she has her first menses.
