OK, this is corny, but with all the bad news day and night
it is nice to have to heroes: the Air Captain who landed the plane on the Hudson and now the sea Captain who surrendered to save his crew, cargo, and ship. And a humanitarian cargo, no less.

3. I don't think your post is corny at all!
And I agree that we sure do have a couple of heroes!

Having the cargo be humanitarian is just the icing on the cake...

:hi:

5. I don't think it's corny.
I think we all want to believe in the potential goodness of humankind. It's nice to get to see things that can help us validate that belief. Especially in times when we're surrounded by so much bad news and suffering.

6. The Captain isn't really a hero.
He is a guy who did his job and did it well, combined with fortunate circumstances in an unfortunate situation.
And has used the pulpit he obtained to advocate for important aviation issues. And don't forget his first officer.

9. Did you hear the Maersk spokesman mention the help of the Maritime Unions?
From the Seafarers Internation Union website:

Reinhart (Maersk spokesman) cited the “brilliant efforts and bravery” of the mariners, who include members of the Seafarers International Union; the Masters, Mates & Pilots; and the Marine Engineers’ Beneficial Association. He called the mariners “heroes” and said, “We’re proud of the whole crew.”

Capt. Sullenberger is a union member, and now it turns out the crew of the Maersk Alabama is also.

These union folks seem a lot more competent than, say, members of the American Bankers Association.
