Poll question: POLL: Did You Ever Imagine That Democrats Would Be Dismissive Of Somalia's Desperate Situation?
It's as if Somalia just appeared last week, fully formed as a haven for "subhuman pirates", and the only thing that'll satiate the bloodlust whipped up by the corporate-controlled MSM is the pirate captain's head on a pike in front of the White House.

Note for the dumbasses: This is not an apology for piracy. It's a simple acknowledgment of what the situation actually is rather than what the echo chamber of the American media says it is. Democrats are supposed to think and make decisions with facts. Neither of which will be found on CNN or Fox - they're just looking for blood literally.

Actually, if we had the US Navy doing what we created it to do all along then a confrontation like this would have happened in the first Bush Administration. It the time since we, along with the international community, should have been able to find a solution.

1. This is a great poll
Especially since nobody is actually talking about doing either one of those things.

11. I think we have inherited our share of wingnuts.
There seems to be quite a few either way that want bomb them.

16. Considering the number of trolls running around this place...
I wouldn't put much faith in that number.

4. Want the truth? I'm having a hard time keeping up with what's going on in every country
It's as if there's an explosion of information, and with my busy life I'm like a hamster in a wheel trying to keep up with the news but failing dismally. And so, while I sensed that things were probably not well in Somalia, because Africa is one of the continents with so many problems, I didn't actually realize that there was mass hunger and that our countries were filling Somalia with toxic nuclear waste.

Maybe we need groups of people to focus on different parts of the world. It's too hard for each and every person to know everything that's happening at every moment in every country.

8. I have trouble, too. But if we have trouble keeping up,
why is our default "vaporize them"?

You'd think people would at least want to know who they are asking to be killed.

9. Well, precisely because we can't keep up....
Our automatic assumption is to think they're doing great and just did this for sport.

I mean, it's still not right that they did this. They had this innocent guy hostage. I'm sure they would've killed him.

However, there's so much info. exploding I just can't keep up.

I really do try but it's hard!

12. But when an "incident" involving Americans occurs
Do you tune in to the Two Minute Hate to find out who's blood you need to be calling for so you'll fit in?

Or do you try to find out what really going on?

13. No, but I think of myself on a dinghy with pirates pointing a gun at my head.....
And it doesn't make me very understanding.

17. And yet, understanding of the Somalis predicament
is exactly what we need to stop this from happening again. And it will happen again & again until we address the core issues.

Obama wants international support to curb piracy AND stamp out the roots of piracy in that region. The people calling for blood won't do that.

18. I know, I know, but honestly, the first thing I thought of was me, on that dinghy, surrounded
by men with guns, and it scared the hell out of me.

10. First you address the situation at-hand...
Edited on Mon Apr-13-09 04:54 PM by rucky
then you address the root of the problem.

And you keep those two things separate, because if you don't, it sends a message that piracy solves problems.

14. Been there, done that
IIRC We went in to Somalia on a "Nation Building" exercise in 1992. Learned the hard way that it wasn't going to be as simple as all the talking heads had proclaimed, and brought the troops home.

The only forced that seems able to bring some semblance of peace and order to Somalia is the Islamic miltiants in the south. It could well be that the only alternative to blowing up the pirates/warlords and alot of innocents along the way, is to not prevent these forces in the south from taking control. But we prob ably won't, I think I remember something about HoChiMinh visiting the US after WW2 and nothing came of that either.
