Wear a black ribbon for Lawrence King on April 17th
(cross-posted from GLBT)

Last year, my gay-straight alliance, which I am president of, decided to wear black ribbons on the Day of Silence (http://www.dayofsilence.org ) in memory of Lawrence King, and all others silenced by anti-LGBT violence.

This year, I want to expand it beyond my school. Wear a black ribbon! Even if you can't be silent, this is still something you can do.

Here's my blog entry about it from last year:

All you need is some ribbon (you can find it at craft stores) and a pin. Don't just stop at one, though. Give ribbons to your family, friends and co-workers. Also, on my blog, there's a "virtual" ribbon you can post on your blog or website. It's easy - just copy and paste the code!

2. Keep pushing outward.

Be visible, be heard! Let more people know what happened, what is still happening.

I'm very glad you're doing this. :loveya:

I hope we all see a lot of black ribbons out there. I hope a lot of people ask us what they are for so we can talk to them about violence against LGBT people, people who weren't doing anything wrong and weren't "asking for it" and didn't deserved to be targeted by violent bigots.

This is a wonderful, non-confrontational, low-risk way to get our message out there to a lot of people.
