to deport him to Germany.

this is an eariler story

By M.R. KROPKO, Associated Press Writer M.r. Kropko, Associated Press Writer – 39 mins ago
CLEVELAND – Five men have arrived at the suburban Cleveland home of John Demjanjuk as he awaits deportation to Germany, where he faces charges he was a Nazi death camp guard.

The men arrived in unmarked cars, and an SUV arrived later, after one man said on a cell phone said "John can't get out of bed."

Meanwhile, Demjanjuk's son was at a federal appeals court in Cincinnati, filing a request to halt deportation.

John Demjanjuk Jr. says it's urgent that the court act quickly, because he has been told that immigration agents would be at his father's home to pick him up and depart from Cleveland at 3 p.m.

2. Germany wants to try him
Edited on Tue Apr-14-09 01:27 PM by merh
Demjanjuk was put on trial again in 2001 on charges that he had served as a guard at the Sobibór and Majdanek camps in Poland and at the Flossenbürg camp in Germany. His deportation was again ordered in 2005, but he remained in the United States as no country would agree to accept him. On 2 April 2009, it announced that Demjanjuk would be deported to Germany and would face trial there on charges of accessory to 29,000 counts of murder. On April 3, 2009 a judge ordered that Demjanjuk be given a temporary stay, pending his appeal on the 2001 trial.<2> The stay was overturned on 6 April.<3>

Maybe this is what will happen to the bushco lot, they will be old and feeble and think they are secure but will be tried for their war crimes - one day.

"With all that's going on in this country, a bunch of thugs are shoving an old man into a car against his will. It looks like nazi germany."

9. Except Demjanjuk was never a Nazi.
A great many Eastern Europeans and Slavic POW's were forced by Germany into making choices of either doing as they were told, such as being concentration, work or prison camp guards, or getting shot.

I worked with a Romanian national that fought in WWII for the Nazi sympathizer Antonescu of Romania against the USSR, was wounded, captured, and forced to fight for the Russians against his previous countrymen, or get shot.

He was then wounded again, captured by the Germans as a Russian POW, and once again forced at the barrel of a gun to fight against his previous countrymen as Romania fell and switched sides as the Communist partisans took up the fight against Germany.

He did what he did, or like my friend Paul said, if you said "No", you'd get a bullet in the face, and then they'd ask the next guy if he wanted to fight.

No one else said "No".

And they considered anyone that let themselves get captured a traitor, and treated them that way.

I am not apologizing for what Demjanjuk did. But he is not a mass-murderer. If he was guilty of that, Israel would have hung him. They didn't. They let him go.

11. I was thinking the same thing
In Germany in the time of Hitler if you said no they would shoot you right there. If you talked to the wrong person and told him how you really felt about Hitler you could get shot. I'm not excusing what they did either but I bet there are a lot of Nazi's who didn't take any joy out of killing people. It's like the soldiers at Gitmo, except they or their family weren't going to get shot if they said no.

8. This is serious, serious bullshit, on so many levels
Edited on Tue Apr-14-09 02:40 PM by Tarc
John Demjanjuk was deported to Israel to stand trial for being "Ivan the Terrible" about 20 years ago, and the convictions failed. Prosecutorial misconduct, withheld evidence, etc...the man was railroaded, and almost hanged because of it. Now all these years laters it "oops, we think he was really another guy in another place?"

Bullshit.

And hell, even if he was...he's a 90 year old man with one foot in the grave already. The whole extradition and transport will likely kill the guy, all for the sake of Israelis who still need their revenge, almost 70 years later.

Time to let it go, and stop playing the victim card at every opportunity.

Flame away, apologists.
