60+ DUers....YOU ROCK!
Edited on Wed Apr-15-09 01:32 PM by YOY
Seeing a few pictures of the tea baggers and the amount of angry old white folks I saw just made me appreciate the older DUers here who prove with some folks, wisdom comes with age.

The baggers are proving the contrary.

This mid 30s DUer hopes he ages like you and not them.

1. I think most of us old crocks at DU
were probably hellraisers in the 60s. I know I was.

The years have made me more radical, not less.

5. Hey Warpy, some of those young whippersnappers are not as dumb as we thought, eh?
They have taken up the good fight at a yong age, and apparently avoided the 80's "Me first"
thinking.
It is kinda nice to be appreciated in our dotage, say what?

my sons call me an ol' hippie...
still got my love beads on my altar to prove it!

I, on the other hand, think I'm just hip!
What do those young whippersnappers know, anyhow?

I dreamed of peace while marching on the freeway
protesting the Viet Nam war...
I dream of peace today, and I remain...
unflinching in my belief that it can happen in my lifetime.

31. See how we've come..
I wouldn't have it any other way.

I didn't protest Vietnam 'cause I
was in my own little world but I
thank you for doing so.

I did go to NYC to rally against
bush's War On Iraq and worked hard
to get President Obama elected so
our country could rid itself of the
gop Orwellian stranglehold.

I think we are living the Perfect
Storm for our Dreams of Peace. :hippie:

2. Why thank you! Makes my recent 71st birthday seem a lot more tolerable!
Must admit, though, that until a few days ago I did not know the current meaning of "tea bagging". Now I can't stop laughing!

Long live and blessings, YOY!

He's no spring chicken himself these days.

I just want to be an old man who's happy when he needs to be and pissed off when he actually should be.

10. 60+ DUers will also age more gracefully, looking younger longer as they believe in
drinking their perfectly good anti-oxidant loaded tea, instead of trashing it due to self serving greed and or being brain washed by fascist leaning, hate filled propaganda outlets.

20. For one thing
We didn't have permits in Chicago in 1968 and people just didn't turn around, shrug their shoulders and go home. Now that was a protest. People risked getting their heads bashed and risked getting arrested because it was important to get the anti-Vietnam War message out. Did it have a good outcome? Not particularly. Nixon won. But people were passionate enough to take the risk of being arrested and being hit with billy clubs. That's what civil disobedience looks like.

These clowns don't even seem to be clear on what they are going on about. Obama is a fascist, but they can't explain why. Taxes are bad, but they didn't complain when the same tax structure was in place with Bush.

The Boston Tea Party was about taxation without representation. We have representation. We just had an election and Obama won by a landslide. These guys are pissed that their lame candidates didn't win. Fine. They are entitled to that. BUt to equate what they are doing today with the Boston Tea Party just shows an ignorance of history. No one said these fools were smart.

24. Wisdom comes with age? Hmmm.... Well, maybe later - I'm only
61 for a few more months.
Maybe my wisdom will come with my first social security check.

Then again, maybe not...., but what the hell.

Thanks, I guess.
(Shit, I didn't realise there were so many OLD PEOPLE here!)

Age is a state of mind....

My years say 60...
My mirror says 45ish...
My heart says mid 20's most of the time.

Seriously, being old makes things a lot easier. Being arrested at a peace protest doesn't mean shit! No employer!

30. Those tea baggers were mad back in the 60's also.
Most of them love authority and the 60's were about being anti authority. They've been mad all these years and it has to have some negative effect on them. I mean many of them are down right ugly people!

We had to hike five miles to our protest marches through driving blizzards. Uphill. Both ways.

You kids don't appreciate how good you've got it, what with the Internet and all instead of blurry mimeographs. Now, go out there and create a just society before I whack you with my cane!
