How incredibly brave are these Afghan women?
It just blows me away. Literally risking and losing their lives for a taste of freedom. The world is watching, I am so humbled by their courage.

1.  It is so inspiring
and they are far more brave than I fear I would be.

3. When Bush redirected resources from fighting the Taliban to invading Iraq
...these are the people who paid for the difference.

4. Yep, I don't understand why there isn't an international effort
to stop the violence against these women. It should be treated like South Africa was during apartheid.

8. South Africa had a government
South Africa had commerce, international relations, alliances, treaties, connections, all of that. Knuckling them down for Apartheid was simple - Cut those ties, and watch them scramble to do whatever it takes to renew them.

Afghanistan is a different beast. It has none of those perks, and sadly, offering them as incentive won't work - People are more prone to avoid hurt than to seek comfort - so once hurt is no longer an issue, there's really not much you can do.

6. I am too. An astounding act of courage that will most likely
cost many their lives.

7. Have the staying power
I just hope that the administration realizes that it will take
decades to change this environment. Infrastructure (roads,
schools, central government, humanitarian support, etc.). If
they only go in for a few years, nothing will change for these
women.

10. Afghan women, arm yourselves...

The only thing that will deter the average Taliban thug is someone more heavily armed than he is.
