"we're a group...who have seen the past 6 mos the historically highest tax upon us"
The full quote is actually:

"we're a group of patriot Americans who have seen the past 6 mos the historically highest tax upon us,"

(I couldn't fit it all in the subject line.)

This from the comment section for the article in my local paper about the local Teabaggers protest. Correct me if I'm wrong here, but aren't the majority of Americans getting a tax CUT, and the rich folks are still paying lower taxes than they did under Reagan? Also, anybody know off the top of their head the cost of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars compared to the cost of the Obama stimulus plan?

1. No, what they are is a group of mindless idiots who've been snowed by radio
and right-wing propaganda machines into thinking that HURRR DEMOCRAT = RAISE TAXEZ ON POOR PEOPLE RARGH, and despite the fact that the vast majority of the drooling idiots got tax CUTS from President Obama they're trying to co-opt the American Revolution into a cause that could not be more unlike it.

2. They are beyond wrong.
The historically highest taxes were during World War II and right afterward, with a top rate of 90%. Under most of Reagan's regime, the top rate was 70%.

Never mind that the top rate hasn't gone up yet, and is still the rate set under Bush. It's only going to go back up to 39.7%, where it was under Clinton, and not until next year.

4. Funny, not one thing in that statement is true! They are not "patriotic Americans",
Taxes went down in the last 6 months the highest tax was a generation ago. They have no idea what they are talking about, they are just robots programmed by the media - wind them up and let them run around in the rain with their teabags.

6. They didn't say they are "Patriotic Americans"...
They said they are "Patriot Americans". Until we get a copy of the Republic-speak dictionary to confirm the actual meaning, it could mean absolutely anything at all - and "anything" with these folks usually means exactly the opposite of what it sounds like. Why bother to parse individual words when you can, instead, butcher an entire language?

It's no wonder Dumbya can barely speak the language, he's got two completely different sets of meanings for every word he knows filling him mediocre mind. Jeebus, it's a wonder his head didn't explode while reading "The Pet Goat". Then again, it wasn't too long after when he decided to invade a country that had nothing to do with 9/11.

OMG, it's "The Bible Code" for Morans.

7. Has the increase for the top 2% even happened yet?
Edited on Thu Apr-16-09 10:13 AM by Renew Deal
I don't think it happens until 2011, so this person is full of shit.

And besides that, was this person around in the 50's when the top rate was like 90%?

11. they should look at all the taxes Obama paid - and then see if it still makes
sense to complain. Wonder why they weren't complaining about the cost of the wars, as you note.

With the economy in such horrible shape and many states and municipalities having to cut back services, this is all they have?

14. How much money was lost and unaccounted for from the war? Where is that outrage?
Remember when they said bricks of bills where being used as footballs? Money was stacked in wheelbarrows, just handed out indiscriminately with no accounting or receipts. That was our money! Where were they then? We were protesting the same thing when bush was doing this and where told to sit down and shut-up! At least the money being spent now is being spent on us and not some plot to make cronies richer.
