and I'm glad when there is a bit of reality injected into the storyline. The thing that bothers me about that show and others is the effect of perception management. An intelligent and informed recipient might be able to discern the underlying message, but that isn't most of those that view/listen to the programs.

Most people who absorb this crap are willing to accept the simplistic view of the world because anything else would take too much effort thinking and investigating. Keep watching for the entertainment but remember most of those who watch accept that as a form of reality. Watch the film "Reel Bad Arabs" to get an idea how corporate media has demonized "others" with virtually no factual basis.

"It's just a TV show" doesn't buy any consideration from me. Glenn Beck, Rush Limpballs, Mike Savage Wiener, NCIS, name your poison are just entertainers? These tools and their copycats have been subsidized to sell the best interest of the ruling elite to produce a result in public opinion. They want us to hate or fear someone to justify their power or not see the secondary effects of their policy decisions.

If you've been around since Kennedy was killed, you should know that the military, industrial/financial, government complex has the upper hand. Do you want to change things or watch some commercial program where you are the wage slave? Do you understand that with commercial media, you are the worker? You are the income stream. If you don't watch the broadcasters they don't make any money because the advertisers want an audience to sell their crap to.

It's bad enough to understand that you are just an income source but it's even worse to know that you are being fed horseshit because that will pay for next years bills.

My recommendation, for what it's worth, turn off the TV and any other commercial media. There might be some who give you a factual representation of what is "newsworthy" but YOU have make that determination. I'd bet you 10/1 that listener/community supported media will get the fact right and provide more information to make your own decision than anyone else.
You want a dose of reality? Go out there and look for the people who have to beg for support to be heard. They would do it with support or not. They believe in what they say. The corporate mouthpieces will sell whatever story they're paid to sell and will believe it if the're paid enough.

Alan Schore has published several books on Neuropsychology which cite the response to cortisol in the prenatal brain and in early life. So has Jak Panksepp. Both are well respected researchers and can be Googled. Enough early biochemical stress and the flight-or-fight response overcompensates as a way to regulate emotion. Ordinarily the cerebrum begins to take over functioning and regulate feelings according to higher order functions. If the limbic brain is ramped up for months or years, over-antagonistic response to fear (i.e. that ramped up in the RW brains by Fox News) becomes the norm. Sometimes it's a kind of high, and people will continue to reinforce the aggressive response.

It's a fascinating field of study.

is being absolutely buried by facts to the contrary, meaning everything you believed in has to blow up right in your face.

We're already seeing their numbers decline because the prosperity theology they all bought (tithe and get rich) has been a spectacular failure for everybody but the pompadoured preacher they were tithing to. There's nothing like losing your job, losing health insurance, and getting sick and homeless with no help out there to convince you that you've been suckered by that one.

Likely the economic meltdown will also take its toll, especially when there are still images of bloated plutocrats out there following the seasons in their various pleasure palaces while they're selling everything they have for food.

Some of them, of course, will be unreachable no matter what happens to them.
